Hey everybody,

Translation problem here.

Two out of the 4 straps that hold the engine cover on my early S1 are not entirely original as the PO' mechanic made new ones using an air chamber.

The other 2 are original but so worn and hard I have a hard time putting a name on what was originally used, I know it's not leather but I need to know precisely how it's called so I can translate it and find

the equivalent here in France or an online source etc...

The other two are not in good shape : old and dry and will be braking sooner or later.

I want to use the exact same stuff or something as close as possible to what was used back in the day.

Thanks .

Thanks Paul,

sorry my post wasn't very clear, I'm actually looking for the correct material, (but wasn't even sure what it is/was), as as I said mine, which I believe are original from 1976, are so dry/rotten I was even wondering what they were in the first place (ha my head hurts).

As you can see this original strap broke when I tried to take it of to have a better look at it (the two original straps on my car are the ones located near the wall/ heat shield etc...)

They are a different shape to those sold at SJ and I want to (re)use the original metal bits.

Ah okay. I'd never seen an original as all mine are long gone, so I assumed they were made from rubber but looking at yours they're not. So I can't help you I'm afraid
