Shopping trolley? No, its the latest sound my car likes to make.

So I finally picked it up today, after having the new, new clutch installed along with the new air intake hose. I decide to take the car out for a nice long drive, and notice some squeaking. Hmm. So I roll the windows down all the way to try and see if I'm imagining things, and nope, its squeaking like crazy. I say 'it' because I really don't know what is doing the squeaking. Its just extremely irritating and definitely noticeable. Think old rusty shopping trolley.

I've always heard the occasional squeak, but not like this. Its not the suspension, because it doesn't happen on bumps; its more of a rolling noise, and happens regardless of how fast I'm going (I went through a tunnel at speed and still could make out the sound), but it seems to be way more noticeable below 20mph or so... although that could just be because the engine/wind noise isn't as bad.

I'm going to bring it in tomorrow for the shop to have a listen, but any ideas what I could be looking at? My rear brakes are brand new and my fronts are about 75% new, and all the calipers were bench tested. Maybe an adjustment is necessary? The noise doesn't stop or change upon braking though, only when the car comes to a complete stop. Bearings? Something need some lubricating? Arghhhh.

my first thought was bearings, yes get it checked imediatly, failed wheel bearings can shear axels.

Could be simple like a stone trapped between the brake disc and the shield. (front)

I had an '85 S3 on which the front springs broke (at different times) causing constant squeaking while driving.

Easy enough to change (even for your workshop) and not expensive.

You often get squeaks from the points where the body mounts to the chassis, especially the ones behind the seats where the bulkhead bolts to the chassis. To me, that would be the first thing to check...need to see if the fasteners are proper tight...not easy to get to, mind; behind the bulkhead trim panel...

Doing my Sherlock Holmes bit - I assume the squeak wasn't there before the Lone Ranger and Tonto went in to ambush the clutch a second time, so I'd assume it to be something they've disturbed.

I'm guessing it's generated as a result of the wheels turning, so how about starting at the wheels and heading back to the driveshafts? My money's on something close to the brake discs.

I just can't believe how much bad fortune you're having with your car.

Over recent months I've cured a squeak I had which I eventually traced to a bolt on one of the panels which form the engine bay surround. I know it's different on your G Turbo but your guys may have removed the panels when doing your clutch and not re fitted them correctly.

Easy check just give them a (gentle) tug back and forth.

Sparky you've just got to work yourself onto a New York return flight with "the firm" and take a look at this motor if you're able.

I recently put a brand new set of pads and discs on the front of my every day car (a Ford) and now they squeak all the time unless I touch the brakes. There are no springs behind the pads unlike my S1 and when I put some copper grease behind the pad (as the shop I bough the discs from suggested) it stopped for a while but has now returned.

That sounds like the pistons not retracting far enough to give proper clearance for the pads...I'd try taking the pads out, enlisting someone to help inside the car, and pump the pistons out a bit, then lever them back in again a few times to spread brake fluid over the interface between the dry piston you've pushed in whilst changing the pads and the seals in the caliper. Once you've got some lubrication there you may well find the problem goes away...it's ony a few thou' involved.

Yeah, no... it wasn't there before the clutch was done this second time. The rear brakes were done about three weeks prior though. I mean, like I said, there was always an occasional squeak, but not constant like this.

Anyway, I brought it up this morning, and went out for a drive with my mechanic and he heard it as well. He applied a little bit of handbrake as we were driving and it seemed to change the pitch so we were thinking that it maybe had something to do with the rears.

Went inside and put it up on the lift to have a better look, and while he didn't see anything that would obviously point to a squeak like that, he did see something with the rear calipers that he wanted to adjust. He showed me and explained it to me but it kinda went over my head. Something about a pin and something sliding out of place. I could see what he meant, I just forget the actual names of the parts. Anyway, he said that he had an idea to fix it, so I left it overnight and I'll connect with him in the morning.
