Towing eye

Has anyone got the front towing eye fitted?

I'm Thinking of trying to source one as it would be handy, just wondered how easy it is to fit.

Chris, mine doesn't have one either. I don't know why, but I think I would like to put one on as will. Let me know if you can source them?

Cheers

Felix

My car has the front towing eye but the AA and RAC refuse to use towing eyes on the front of cars, particularly when loading onto low loaders, trust me I know , if your doing it for this reason then it's pretty pointless.

Most "towing eyes" are not for towing, they are lashing eyes, for when it's on a low-loader to secure them down, hence the desire to not tow the car using them. Even if some are truly for towing the recovery firms prefer to not chance it, and assume they're all just lashing points.

Oh, Thought it would be handy as there is now where to tow the front of the car from.

Maybe not.

Thanks

The S4 has one but having looked closer i'd agree and say more of a Lashing eye than towing.

Although mine has been pulled onto a flatbed on three occassions by Green flag so it has been handy

From the handbook:

Towing Eye.

A towing eye is provided in the radiator air intake aperture for vehicle recovery purposes, such as winching onto a car transporter. Only in an emergency should the vehicle be towed, and for the shorstest distance necessary, during which time the following precautions must be taken: //snip//

(it then goes on to detail safety issues such as lack of servo brakes and local legislation etc)

So, it's a towing eye and not a lashing eye. Tell the AA and RAC to winch away from the correct point with impunity and stop trying to bend a suspension arm whilst ripping off the lower spoiler. They were fitted from the S4 onwards - I expect the earlier cars were too reliable to require one...
