wow, that looks like a great project.

Is he really using fence wire as a spring comressor?

It may be that I bring mine out if we ever decide to try living there for a bit (wife is Australian and daughter has both UK an Oz passport). She would love for us to go. London is okay for a workplace, but compared to Australia, its not a great place for children. I was out there in October an felt my eclat would fit right in with the sunshine and the other V8's rumbling around. I would need aircon however.

Has anyone thought about fitting something like this?

or replacing the current heater with this combined aircon/heating unit

it looks fairly compact

Ironicaly enough, while you are looking at Lotuses for sale in Oz, I have just bought an australian car here. I think its the only SV5000 VN commodore in the UK. It needs some love, but with its performance, it should be a giggle. It's like a poor man's lotus carlton... Somone has also painted it in dark purple.

The can aledgedly do a 1/4 mile in 14.2 as standard, which isn't bad for a big automatic car.

Doesn't surprise me. I had trouble locating a spring compressor small enough to fit on the rear coils of my Esprit. In the end I ended up using very heavy duty cable ties (rated at 170 lbs) backed up with heavy duty wire. I inserted the the ties and wire all the way around the spring, compressed it and then locked everything down. Worked very well. Key was to work quickly.

your a braver man than me Gavin,

I value my fingers more than the expense of a set of small lip compressors. lol

having been hit in the kisser by a compressed coil spring escaping..... I would never rely on any thing but a decent compressor, I certainly wouldnt leave the things laying around with baler twine or cable ties holding them down!!
