iPhone and Alpine?

Recommended Posts

I knew that the ICE was a bit dodgy in the Evora; I didn't realise it was so infuriating!

Anyway, anybody managed to pair AND successfully make a call using an iPhone? If so please tell me how, what are the settings on the phone and the head unit. It's driving me chicken oriental!

LOL I had the same issue with mine - Bibs somehow fixed it (flook if you ask me).

We set the headunit on search 1st then switched the phone bluetooth on and scanned - when I tried it didn't work, when Bibs had a go it worked so I guess walking away and coming back to it made the difference ?

Who knows.

Marvin I cannot help with i-phone I'm afraid. I had enough grief with i-touch used for music then Samsung phone getting it to bluetooth. Took a dealer unit out reboot. One or two of the forum Evora owners have managed (eventually) I believe so you will get help.

Yes use mine paired easily and iPod function works no prob. You occasionally get incompatsbklity MSG in iPhone screen when plugging jn asking if u want to go to airplane mode. Just select no. How to pair? Dunno just followed the instructions, let alpine search fog device and make sure iPhone is visible.

Actually managed to pair the alpine and apple!

Only problem now is that there is no sound from the speakers when I make a call and the person on the other end can't hear me. Also can't hang up after I have initiated a call from the head unit. My god this thing is annoying!

Help!

Marvin,

My iPhone paired first time and was working fine and iPod functions well.

I had no sound on the phone this morning after I had been playing about with the settings.

If you still have the problem with no sound on telephone, check your system settings for Bluetooth (only available when stopped with handbrake on and key in ignition) and make sure that "Navigation" is selected and not "Adapter". With adapter selected you will get BTAUDIO in the source menu which will disappear when you change the setting to "Navigation"

Shock new developments....

I asked the chaps at Stratton motors to help me with pairing my iPhone (twice) and it still doesn't work.

Last week I upgraded my iPhone to OS4 and now it is not only useless as a car phone but also as an integrated iPod. I am usually a techno wizz, but I am defeated by this piece of crap. Poor show Alpine/poor selection Lotus. Not chuffed.

I upgraded to OS4 also but can still connect Ok to the Alpine unit and it still works as an integrated iPod.

Before updating my iPhone I upgraded the firmware on the Alpine and downloaded the latest maps and registered for map upgrades.... at a cost.

The firmware upgrade is supposed to resolve the issue of loosing GPS signal. No problems yet but have not been on any of the roads I was on previously when I lost signal. The most recent road was the A68 heading back from Newcastle near Kielder forrest.

The UK map my Alpine was delivered with was 2008 quarter 3 but now I have the latest UK map available for the unit which is 2009 quarter 4. I have subscribed to quarterly map updates for the next 2 years

Why was the unit not delivered with the latest firmware and maps!!!

Until I upgraded the map I could not find my home postcode because the last letter of my postcode F was not available when searching. My house has been here since 1936 and the postcode the same since postcodes were introduced.

To resolve the phone book issue I have with the unit  Previous post and because the iPhone doesn't allow access to the SIM card to add numbers to it, I used a Nokia phone I have on Orange and copied my most frequently used contacts to the SIM card, connected it to the Alpine by bluetooth, downloaded the contacts from the SIM and then unchecked the "Download P.Book" option in bluetooth settings, disconnected Nokia phone and then re-connected iPhone by bluetooth....hey presto my contacts are now listed in the order I want them in . :animier:

Niggles with the Alpine aside the car is absolutely fantastic to drive and I am enjoying every minute I am in it. Now had it 5 weeks and 3,500 miles on the clock and the only mechanical issue is a vibration from the gear lever which the car has been back to the dealer for and will be looked at again at the 9,000 service once the car has "loosened up" a bit.

Chris

I had similar problems to you initially with my iPhone, but I just kept trying until it paired. First time it did pair, I had no sound. So I unpaired, did it again, and the second time it worked fine. I don't remember doing anything different. Its worked fine since on each pairing. My only suggest is keep trying.

Brian

Being lazy I know, but how do you do the firmware update?

Sorry to hijack your thread Brian, but does anyone know why the Alpine unit suddenly stops playing music and starts beeping? Seems to do it every few minutes and it's REALLY annoying!

Or am I missing something really obvious?

First time I noticed it, was when I had my iPhone connected to the iPod socket, and today it wasn't, but it was connected via bluetooth, with a normal iPod in the glovebox. Any ideas?

The beeping lasts for 30 seconds or so, then the music comes back on..

The only time mine beeps is if I am approaching a speed camera and over the speed limit

The phone rings through the speakers if you have an incoming call and the audio source mutes.

I had the situation where I was getting no sound if I made or received a call. It was because I had been playing about with the Bluetooth settings. Check to make sure that in System settings you have Navigation selected and not Adapter. A quick check before you delve into settings is in the Source menu if adapter is selected you will have BT.Audio as an option in addition to radio and iPod.

Had a look into the settings today, and the only Warning that is on is the Camera one. So possibly its just warning me.. Must be very random as I don't think there are any cameras around where I was.? I'll try turning it off and hopefully that will solve it

Justin,

If it is camera warnings will see a speed camera icon on the Nav screen and the speed limit for the road. I have either my iPod or Radio as Source and Nav as visual all the time so can see all speed camera locations.

Since I updated my camera database I now get lots of mobile speed camera locations as well as known static camera locations so that may account for the randomness of your beeps if there is no physical camera there.
