Gearbox end-plate gasket

Recommended Posts

The end plate on my 1983 NA gearbox weeps oil and whilst not at a terrific rate is enough for there to be a constant drip on the casing. I'm tempted to whip it off and renew the gasket, but am I opening up a whole can of worms in doing this? Any "gotchas" in the wings? Would be done with the box in situ.

Just did my end plate. No gasket, just sealant.

I used Threebond 1211, but I understand Loctite 518is the go.

You can do it insitu, but you'll have to remove the muffler.

Is this true for all other joining surfaces? SJS only sells gaskets for the input shaft housings so I'm guessing that all of the other joining surfaces use a sealant?

I have just done a rebuild on my gearbox and the only gaskets that i have bought are for the input shafts. Otherwise Loctite is you friend :respect:
