Temperature guage sender

Can anyone confirm that the temperature sender for a 2.2 Eclat is located in the thermostat housing? During some remedial work I've ended up with:

1) Temp guage inop

2) Spare wire with a female spade connector on it.

3) What looks like a sensor sticking out of the thermostat housing, but no male spade connector on it.

I'm guessing that the 3 are connected and I've managed to knock off the spade connector from the sensor. Before I flash the plastic for a new sensor, can anyone confirm I've got this right?

Yep, single wire to the sender located in the rear of thermostat housing, the female pushes over the round disc end on the sender

Mat, as Dan stated. But be clear it is not a male spade, it is a flat disc with a thin piece of metal that attaches it to the main body, imagine a drawing pin pushed into the sender unit.

Mmm, mystery deepens. I remember removing the wire with a female spade connector, but like a dickhead forgot to log what I took it off.

Couldn't find where it went back, and assumed because the temp guage had stopped working that was it. The sender does indeed have a circular disc. I'd been levering away with all sorts of implements trying to insert a new hose between the thermostat housing and inlet manifold, so assumed I must have broken a bit off the sender, but it now appears from what you're both saying that it is, as it should be.

I'll do more digging in the morning. It's annoying as I don't want to drive the car with a newly fitted coolant hose and no temp guage! Feels like a recipe for disaster!

That's the bit, fine.

Simply put the female spade on that disc with the complete bit of the female connector away from the sender, the slot in the female connector is where the "pin" goes.
