On hard steering lock do your tyres scrub? eg parking etc. I was told all Elites do this due to the suspension set up.

Yep - due to the non ackerman steering.

Why did they not adopt the Ackerman steering?

In fast corners the difference between ackermann steering and parallel steering is negligible due to how little you turn the wheel. I would assume there is some advantage in having parallel steering, whether it be feel or cornering force. I think karts have parrallel steering.

Non-ackermann steering is only a disadvantage in slow full lock situations.

Keep in mind there are three options, not just Ackerman and non-Ackerman, there's reverse(or anti)-Ackerman. The latter is where the inner wheel turns less than the outer one.

Anti-Ackerman is the one that generally gives the better handling at higher speeds as it has effects on the inclination of the wheels and the grip each then has.
