Cannot remove Waterpump?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am in the process of doing up my lotus elite, doing the cam belt and water pump etc to get it up and running again.

I have taken off the cam belt and acquired a new one and i am in the process of taking the water pump off. But he is where my problem lies, i have removed all the bolts i can see and all of the water hoses, taken off the power steering pump but i am still unable to remove the pump as it appears to be stuck at the bottom, is there another bolt behind where the power steering pump was that i am missing?

If any one has an image of this area of the engine it would also be most helpful

The engine is the 912 HC

Kind regards

Mongolian

From the Lotus Parts Manual it shows 5 M6 bolts holding the water pump to the block - 2 are 30mm long, 2 are 40mm, and one is 55mm.

I've never had to remove my water pump - so I'm afraid I can't be of any more help.

There are two bolts that hold the power steering pump bracket to the flat spot of the water pump casting, easiest access is to dislocate the PS pump (pivot bolt and adjuster bolt to be removed) then get at the two bolts you need to from that area.

yeh i have taken the power steering pump off and all of the bolts around the water pump but it still doesn't want to budge like their is still a bolt holding it in somewhere.

any idea what this may be?

Hi, depending on the car, some pumps are fitted with a gasket and some are just stuck with sealant, if you have definately removed all the bolts, is it just the sealant holding it?

Do you mean you've just removed the M5 bolts at the face of the water pump and the two bolts that hold the power steering pump to its carrier/

If so, you've missed my point, that I could have made more clear. There are two bolts that hold that carrier to the water pump, I normally leave that carrier attached to the engine.

If you want to remove the carrier with the water pump then there is one more bolt to undo. It is one of the sump bolts. It has a nut (or nuts) above the sump/ block combo, so you need spanners on both ends, unlike most sump bolts which are threaded in the block.

If you want to remove the water pump from the steering pump carrier, you have to undo the two bolts which go from the steering pump carrier into the water pump. They are orientated so that they point towards (or just either side of) the water pump spindle.
