Long brake pedal

just had fitted new front callipers, mintex 1144 pads front and rear and braided hoses to the Excel (1991 Celebration).

I now have a braking system that works but in the process of repair the brake pedal travel is longer that before so bites much later than before.

The system has been well bled and the master servo working fine. I believe there is an adjuster to the push rod in the foot well but the workshop Manuel makes no mention.

Anyone know how to adjust. I can see one locking nut at the clevis end.

Changing the pads shouldn't cause you to need to adjust the push-rod for the master. You say it's been well-bled, but excessive travel (assuming no fluid leak) means either the fluid is not pure (air in the system somewhere) or the system is needing too much fluid movement to get the effect (pads not seated correctly, hoses expanding etc).

Play in wheels bearings can induce such an effect.

I've got to agree with air...

It is possible that a brand new completely dry caliper is harbouring some air pockets in corners or around the piston itself....

Maybe a little light tapping whilst bleeding may make a difference?

Did you notice any bubbles in the flid when you were pouring it out, maybe its recently been dropped or shaken?

all ok now. needed to fully bed them in. The long drive down and a few laps round castle combe seem to have sorted things out. Spot on now with excellent stopping ability and correct pedal travel, very pleased.
