Spares to take on 13 day journey round europe...

What parts should I carry with me that are rare/hard to find/or just might take a day or two to arrive, on a trip to Tuscany via Classic Le Mans and back? Thanks for any advice.

• Obviously fuses, I guess (know where you can get suitable comprehensive fuse kits for a S3 Turbo?)
• Bulbs
• Belts?
• Sparks?
• ...

Bulbs and fuses are a good idea (and the law in mainland Europe). Other than that - nothing else. Have the car serviced before you go and given the once over.

I've driven to Germany, Switzerland and Austria in my S2 and it was fine. Will keep my fingers crossed for you!

If you try and predict things that break you'll end up towing a trailor full of parts that you'll prob not end up using.!

If you do a search I'm sure Tony K posted a while ago about what he took in his S1.

Personally I'd be more inclined to make sure I had a good tool kit with a selection of all the things I might need including awkward size sockets and multi angle socket drives.

Oh and take spare oil and water.

I'd take a toolkit and membership of a recovery service plus bulbs etc. There's nothing to be done if your belts snap save a tow home however if you have them changed before you go you're taking another variable out of the equation.

I'd happily drive my car any distance, it's a regular in mainland Europe without worry or fear to detract from the fun.

2 part Hose repair tape is a small but VERY useful accesory for any long distance tool kit. Ideal for coolant hose repairs but also possible for vacuum leaks and small oil hose leak temporary repairs, oh and cable ties... I always have cable ties...!

Great advice Si I'd second that. The number of times I've temp wrapped a hose to get me home or cable tied something is huge!

I'd suggest a throttle cable, caliper repair kit and maybe a clutch slave cylinder if only to pass these items if required to your mechanic. Any repair service or garage will have or be able to source other breakdown items (hoses, alternators, belts etc) and get you back on the road relatively quickly.

If it's something more serious you're going home on the back of a truck anyway.

Stuff that will get you to a garage:

Jubilee clips, cable ties, a few electrical connectors and a metre of cable, a multimeter, insulation tape, duct tape (for holding body bits on or taping palstic over broken windows).

A footpump and tyre weld (you don't want to ruin your hard to source tyre if you can get it to a gargage with the odd stop and pump up)

A good size container full of water.

My wiper packed in so much on my S3 i carried a bottle of rain-ex everywhere.
