Does anyone have the cross ref. for the water pump from a 1977 esprit? or replacement as well as where to get one. I remember seeing the Ford logo on mine. Thanks

Do you need a water pump, or just your water pump refurbished?

The kits are inexpensive, even an exchange is not too bad for price, but the core of the ali casting is attracting quite a premium, I think some specialist here are charging over £100 if the core is not returned in a refurbish-able state.

Just a refurbish is all.

Then try a non-franchised / independent specialist (JAE springs to mind in the USA) as they will sell the kits which you can press in (if you have a suitable machine) or they will generally do a refurbished unit on an exchange basis, you can send your old one before they send the new one or after depending on whether they have one on the shelf or need to send yours off. In the UK those kits are around £70.

The only Ford part of it is the cloverleaf-shaped hub that the pulley bolts to.

Rebuild kit should be under $100 from the usual suspects. Couple of tips:

1) When you press the shaft out from the hub, make sure the blocks in the press are all the way in against the shaft, or you'll break an ear (threaded hole) off of the hub! The rebuild kit comes with a hub, but it might not fit the shaft, so treat the old one like it is precious.

2) Don't apply heat once the rubber seal is in! This sounds like common sense, but it's easy to forget when assembling it.

3) Measure the impeller clearance and the space from hub to pump casting before you take the old one apart and just put the new one back exactly like that. It might not be exactly what the service manual states, but if it worked before . . . .

These all sound like common sense, but I've seen all three happen, so a reminder might be helpful!
