rear box on exhaust

hello everyone. i have the sj supersport rear box on the s4 and i'm wondering how much louder it would be without a rear box as im thinking of replacing the rear section with a new stainless, there is nothing wrong with the sj rear section but as i have had the manifold and cat sections made i may as well go the whole hog and replace it, just wondering if its legal to have it without the silencer as i cant see the small box doing a great deal

Mine runs standard manifold and cat section but with 2.5" straight through after the cat. That I put together myself with Jetex parts for a total cost of £80!!!!!

Whilst I am not happy with the 'type' of noise*, the volume is perfectly acceptable. Loud - yes, but not loud enough to make babies scream and rattle windows.

*plan to create a twin exit later in the year, same size tail pipes but will use a feed off the main exhaust with 4" pipe. The plan being to not disrupt the flow of gases (hence why I kept to 2.5") but at least give an echo chamber to deepen the sound
