    Welcome home 007

  • Morning folks - I'll put my hand up and admit I've bought the Essex - absolutely delighted and am feeling very lucky to finally have my dream Esprit garage ?

Part of me is happy that this Essex is back home; but a big part of me is not happy that I won't see this car on the streets of Melbourne again! I'm not sure that I can adequately describe my feelings

And storage Hopo as you already have two other Esprits.... I just think its selfish and should give me your bronze one so everyone gets to have a go. (post repair work of course).

Henry as Tev will testify... the more the merrier!

plus one car is in storage in Newmarket.. well not all of it. the gearbox is sat in a shed in liverpool... bits of engine are also langushing in a unit in Wallasey.....

I love this when we start talking about what a running Essex is worth 'cause suddenly when there's one for sale there're worth nothing. Just as a price check what did Chris Evans pay for his S1 ?

comment_409606

Too much :-)

On a more sensible note my current thinking is that an Essex is a desirable car indeed and as the numbers are low along with availability, then the chances of it fetching s decent price is the best it can be. The S1's too are in short supply so these too command a premium. I may have a rep for running prices down but that's simply not true, I'm just realistic and not trying to drive prices up as I don't believe they will move simply because we talk about how fantastic they are and then read the other million posts on the forum cataloguing how many have caught fire, snapped a cam belt, cracked a manifold, sprung a leak in the difficult to replace petrol tank or eaten second gear. And then these are bought by people who don't actually want to spend any money on them!

Trevor

I'll get around to it at some point.

Think Chris payed a healthy sum for his... (IIRC over 20k odd) but then again i would expect a good S1 to fetch this amount. I would also expect a decent Essex to go for similar.

Which is the more desireable car? The essex may well be to many die hard Lotus fans but im sure the S1 would have a broader appeal despite possibly being a less "sorted" car

Can't believe it, a voice of reason :-) we are in accord.

I disagree with both of you for a change!

How many S1's were produced? Trevor your suggestion that Essex "numbers and availability are low" seem IMHO to be a tad wide of the mark. There were only 34 produced in the first place in 1980/1 and, (please correct me if I'm wrong), only 3 on the UK roads now? - none of these for sale.

To suggest that numbers were low and that makes them desirable seems akin to saying that a Sport 300 should carry a premium over a stock mid 1990's SE because fewer numbers were made. As a statement it's true but seems to miss the point. :)

Hmmm. Sorry Barry I can't see what you are saying as you seem to be agreeing with me but at the same time not?

Much easier to discuss at the meets as misunderstandings are easy in the typed word.

There seems to be a lot of idle chat as to how much an Essex is worth, and how rare they are.

Well, mine is for sale. If someone puts their money where their mouth is and makes me a reasonable offer I will let it go. I havent got time to restore it. Its the one pictured on the trailer, number 018, and it is in the UK and has all its documentation from new.

Agree with Hopo, far too much money :-)

Trevor.

Not too much considering it's in Australia Trevor.

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

I don't know the Aussie market so perhaps it's a good price as i understand prices are higher there. However it's still not sold so that does tell me all I need to know.

I,ve posted this before but seems more at home in this thread, think it might be 007 but I'm sure someone can tell me.

I took this photo at Donnington in 1981.

What a great photo..possibly a JPS S2 next to it? Although could be conflicting with JPS & Essex.
