1985 S3 N/A project

Recommended Posts

Hi, as the title I picked up an S3 NA 1985 local to me.

Its not my first as I had a yellow S3 when I lived near to 'Hilly' forum member in Shepperton.

The car needs an MOT and a cambelt change- its 10 years since its had one but only covered 9000m since then- I guess

if you went by mileage its fine, but there's that disintegrating of the belt factor isn't there! The cars done 55,000m.

Reason I bought one again is because of the backup and help that seems to be on here.

I felt a bit alone running one the first time, but now it seems they're being restored and don't

have the 'can't touch that its a supercar' attitude, which is great because it gives confidence

for a new generation of owners to get stuck in- only thing is I'm not convinced I could do a cambelt

correctly, but would happily pay for any owners here to pop over and fit one on for me (sounds easy

doesn't it). MOT next week which I'm dreading...

Regards, Mark

4.5 years to your first post, I'm popping some champagne for you right now :P

Ring Sparky on here, phone number is here... http://www.watfordexotics.co.uk/

He did my belt on the weekend, is local to you and will get the belt done in under an hour for a very reasonable price. I've got one here in stock if you need it too :shuriken:

Good luck with the car, I'm sure we'll all enjoy your updates and don't forget to add some pics!!

4.5 years- I saw that too on my profile which is weird because I joined Sunday! No I'm not that

cautious that I'd take that long to buy an Esprit. I'd been looking for around 3 months.

My Esprit before was used every day for work for over a year even in the snow and I got so used to it

I couldn't work out what people were looking at- oh yeah I'm in a bright yellow supercar! Anyway, thanks

for the cam belt tip and yes I'll add some pics.

Congratulations on your "new" car. I've been making a hobby of putting the early turbos back together. Underneath that shape, they are pretty much like any other cars - just less access. Besides the cam belt, what other projects do you have in mind? Can't wait to see the pics...

Hi, that interesting Mike, because one of my plans for the S3 is to sort the interior using

a colour matched vinyl dye to restore the colour and I see on your blog you're restoring yours

and its the same colour as mine. My seats have been re-upholstered but the dash and gauge

pod are fairly scratched. I then plan to sort out the boot area.
