Hy folks,

for my reanimation project I need to check the geometry of the suspension first, .....prior to any further investments in replacement parts for whole car (sound plausible, right :detective: )

So the question is: the workshop-book refers on 140mm ground clearance for 'normal' right height and as reference for any suspension/geo check. Where is the right point, as the term 'chassis main side rail' (see RED area ) brings me into some trouble with the legal requirements on 'road going ground clearance' in Germany... ?!

If I simulate an static-weight that pushes the car down,

and measure 140mm down from the red marked areas on front & rear end of the main-side rail , just to the flat ground

-there is at least 6cm (Blue) clearance under the crossmember behind the tank bay.

And measured on front-end it shows less than 4cm [!!] (Blue) under the pedal/interior crossmember profile ?

So what's wrong ?

I'm not sure where the firast picture is but as I understand it it's from the side sill rail.

Follow the fiberglass sill cover down until it meets the ali, just behind the front wheel, measure there for the ride height.

As said on the lower part of the chassis under the lower wishbone behind the front wheel & on the same part of the chassis at the rear just before the undertray starts

so the workshop-book is slightly incorrect then ?

As this (brown) is not the main -siderail profile, that forms the chassis , and goes from the front up to the steel support-frame.

The brown market distances are down from the parts forming the level of the footwell/fuel tank base .. .

if so, I now have successfully 'simulated' the 140mm right-hight front & rear

20kg of coal-blocks into the battery area, 75kg of sandbags and coal into each side in the passenger compartement ...and lods of sandbags onto the rear (9 of 25kg each !). Wow ..what a heavy lump of alloy must this Rover drivetrain(together with an filled steel tank) be !

From the feeling the kN balancing set up on the springs front to rear this is an really unballancede car. with loads of wheight on the back, all those pictures with Elises 'jumping' of from the garage lift come in mind

140mm ground clearance seems to be a lot ! Especially if i compress and lift up the suspension again -there is not much on 'negative' travel reserve in the standard suspension -right ?
