Hiya,

Has anyone had a head gasket go on the elise? Apparently they have the rover K series engine Oh OOOOOOOOOOO. If so what is the chances of it going again once its been replaced with new modified gaket and bar? x

There is alot more to it that 'just replacing the gasket' you need to read up on the K series headgasket saga, there is plenty of it.

Main things are liner heights must be measured, if they are not all standing proud of the block by around 0.15mm ( I think - check it!) then you need to think harder.

Some stand proud is better than none but they must be even. the other problem is 'funneling' where th liners lean one way or the other.

In addition you need to think about head hardness, has it been overheated? Also head porosity has the head been skimmed already.

The headgasket rarely just goes - you need to work out why and and fix it properly.

That said a well built K will last for ages, but a poorly one that isn't fixed will blow HG after HG.

The MLS landrovergasket is allegedly good for porous or soft heads but is intolerant of liner height irregularities

The stadnard gasket is better at dealing with wonky liners.

It is a bit of a minefield, but quite a few places know these 'K's very well!

Head Gasket had gone now all done with a nice hefty bill. Luckily the liners hadnt sunk so no other major engine damage. Was a whole week without my baby though x
