Hi, bought a turbo esprit end of last year, but need good weather to get out of garage. been working on interior but have questions on wing mirrors. my car is 1984 and asking at the lotus show last week no-one seemed to have them. Does anybody know what the donor vehicle was that lotus used to source these or indeed any other parts.

Many Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian (have moved your post to the Giugiaro room, as this is a better place for it!)

As for the eternal wing mirror question.....

They are well and truly made of unobtanium. The closest anyone has come to finding another vehicle with them on was Ray Walker who seems to thinks they were use don London Taxis! I have seen what he means and they look incredibly similar but wihout getting the two together I couldn't say with any degree of certainty.

Tho I guess if they are that similar they may well suffice as a suitable replacement part?

Hi Ian I have just been through the fun of getting wing mirrors. Well one anyway, as I had two different types on the car.

I can check up on the London Taxi front tommorow I'll pop round my mate's house and have a look at his dads mirrors. What side did you need anyway?

Thanks for help, both sides dont work electrically (although you can hear solenoids thumping) I freed off the swivel but still not strong enough to move mirror. The drivers glass is smashed so just the glass would be a bonus.

Many thanks, this looks to be extremely useful site, hopefully with experiance I can answer a few myself.

You can get sheets of mirror glass that you trim down to size yourself, but you should be able to get the glass from SJ Sportscars or PNM. As for the motors You could always take apart the one with the cracked glass an see if you can get it to work. What have you got to lose?
