Apologies if this has been done to death, but can anyone give me an opinion on Redline MT-90 vs recommended Castrol TAF-X. Thanks.

Sorry can't provide any technical info. However, because of the inavailablity of TAF-x in US, i installed MT 90 in my 1999 V8 at 22000 miles. Since change i have clocked 10000 miles and have noticed no adverse effects. For what it's worth i have measured transaxle temp. with heat gun, and didn't detect any abnormal heat. Also drained enough fluid out to check for color and / or any metal. It looked good, no burning or metal. I sorta subscribe to the theory that fluids like MT 90 and Amsoil syn. tranaxle 75-90 are well tested formulas used by real racers, as well as idiots like myself, and that they are carefully formulated. There are technical rep's available at Lotus as well as mfg.companies that sit around waiting for the phone to ring so as to prove they are doing something. good luck and i too would be interested in a more informed answer.

Hi Mike and welcome to the forum. It's a good one. MT90 seems to have become the default oil for those who can't get TF-X. Some have used it for several years without either syncros degrading or the c/w and pinion wearing away. Many complement it as improving gear selection as well.

I see you have a Sport 350. Had it for long or a recent acquisition? There's a member in Auckland who imported one a few years ago too.

I am about to put MT90 in my Sport 350 too. I use MT90 in other Renault gearboxes with no issues so far and would also go as far as to say the gear selection is a little better. Recently put it in a 1998 GT3 which Sparky now owns and perhaps he will comment.

Sorry about late response...thought I would be email alerted if anyone answered but perhaps don't have that set up properly. About 350, pretty recent owner (1 1/2 years). Was a great price so jumped all over it. Plus very low mileage. Glad I bought it. Already had a 2000 GTV8 so tried to sneak in a second esprit in the garage hoping my wife wouldn't notice...that didn't work.

Yeah, re Auckland member...that would be Kylie. Awesome person and a good friend. Whenever she makes the trip to the South Island we take the cars out for a hoon to a remote pub where she beats me in pool. Owned car #27 but sold it very recently. I was very surprised because, she was, and I think still is, a complete 350 nut. Don't know if it will work but here's a pic of car #3. Thanks to all for opinions on MT-90.
