S4s Misfire at 5K Rpm

Hi All

1995 S4s stock apart from chip (which has been in for 5 years),new plug leads and plugs late last year, briefly the problem only happens at around 5000 rpm upwards when hitting the gas quite hard it feels as though the engine is misfiring which when i had almost the same problem last year was fixed with new plugs and leads,i am tempted to throw in a new set of plugs again (had a similar problem on a bike for this very same problem and new plugs always fixed it) am wondering if anyone out there may have an alternate solution or maybe point me in the right direction.I have checked all connectors and vac pipes there are no leaks ,the car ticks over perfectly and will rev very well stationary this snag only happened under load ,also checked map sensor tubing all good.

Nick

My S4S is all stock except with chip 5 installed. A while ago I started to feel hesitation on various RPM, which made me feel it was time to check ignition area again. First of all I have changed my coils with MSD and leads are KV85 both were done about a year ago. Can ran fine until recently started a hesitaion at different RPM.

Now this is what I have done only last week and it has solved my problem completely and car runs very smoothly now.

1 I changed the IAC as this can cause misfire and hesitation from my experience. ( Freescan resets it and somehow it must lose its settings hence I replaced it. Possibly worn out due to age. )

2 I used to run NGK Iridiun plugs ( not good ) so back to Standard NGK plugs. Check gaps before fitting.

3 Replaced the elbow for vacuum at the MAP sensor ( only had hair line cracks But still replaced )

4 Electric pump for chargecooler ( so much better on charge cooler temp. )

Touch wood she is running so much better than it has been recently. Maybe this will point you in the right direction as both our cars are stock.

Good Luck

Cheers

Hi Ameer

Thanks for your input i have fixed problem as i found a bad coil,it was relatively easy to spot as today when i went to start car it was only running on 2 and sometimes 3 ,so off with the old coils and on with the new (what a pig to fit especially bottom bolt).Runs alot smoother i guess i was having a coil issue last year i used to find the car sort of stagnated sometimes when it really should have been revving its little head off.

Thanks to all
