Evora S - Supercharger details

Recommended Posts

Hello all

I would like to know a little more about the Supercharger system on the Evora S.

Does the system have an intercooler? I read on another post that the S has an additional oil radiator, but nothing about an intercooler.

I thought an intercooler was essential to preserve engine life, as the air from forced induction could get very hot under prolonged load, and damage the engine as a result.

Is there anywhere one can find the full technical data of the S?

The Evora S has twin oil coolers that are located in the front bumper, fed by the grilles which are opened up, as opposed to closed off in the earlier standard version.

Chargecoolers are not required - plenty of applications where forced induction is used without a cooler however they do make alot of sense.

It will not damage the engine - the ECU will adjust timing based on air charge temp and if it gets too hot it will back off and reduce power.

Looking closer at the picture above there appears to be hoses going into the body - apart from crank case ventilation these could be coolant.

there are superchargers with built in water charge coolers mounted between the charger and engine...

Thanks for the replies.

The dealer's chief mechanic also confirmed that the S has a water cooler.

Jaws, interesting info about the oil coolers. I need to check on the dealer's demonstrator again.

The Sport pack on the standard Evora includes an oil cooler, which I understand is somwhere in the engine bay.

I think your dealer's chief mechanic is simply refering to the cooling pack which is water cooled and on every Evora, situated in the front subframe. In addition the Evora 'S' has the 2 oil coolers situated either side that feed the engine. The supercharger being air cooled via the airbox. The Evora IPS also has these 2 oil coolers. However, they are used to feed the gearbox not the engine. The standard Evora (manual) doesn't have any oil coolers even with the sport pack.

I hope this clears things up?

Are you sure about that? the options list of the catalogue did specify an oil cooler for the sports pack option. When I took delivery I asked the mechanic where it was and he reported it was in the engine bay 'somewhere underneath'.

Now I want to take a closer look.

Sorry, I was actually just refering to the additional oil-air coolers. The 2GR-FE engine supplied comes with a very small oil-water cooler as standard, this is what the mechanic is probably refering to (this is deleted and replaced with a sandwich plate on the 'S'). Whether you chose the sport pack or not on the standard Evora has no relevance though.

Oil cooler definitely part of the sports pack option, so in theory a non-sport pack doesn't have it. I have yet to see an Evora, in pictures or in the metal, without the sports pack though.

The mechanic confirmed what you say about the water-oil cooler. It uses the engine water to cool the oil, which explains why the water temperature gauge varies more, depending on use, that in a standard liquid-cooled engine car.

I know the original Evora S had a Harrop Supercharger, but doesn't the MY12 have an Eaton Supercharger? If so, is there a performance difference? Thanks.
