Help needed with leg room!

I've seen a really nice Stevens Esprit (pre SE) which I'm keen to purchase but being over 6ft tall with long legs, I can't squeeze in! In particular, my left leg js jamming between the centre console and steering wheel and I can't operate the pedals. Would fitting a smaller steering wheel help? How about removing the spacers underneath the seat. Would these remedies give me enough extra leg room? Do the later cars get any roomier? Can anyone offer help or advice? Sensible answers only please - don't think my medical insurance would cover shortening of legs! Thanks.

Hi yes the things you have mentioned will definately help. I am 6ft and I just about fit in my G-car.

In Regards to the stearing wheel you can go two options smaller diameter. Or as I plan to in the near future if i keep the car get a D Wheel where the bottom is flat this will give you even more room.

As for the seat yes you can remove the runners from the seat and then bolt it direct to the floorpan but this will require new holes. I also intend to do this!

Iam 6'-3" and had a 90 turbo a few years back. Firstly, you may need to readjust your seat. It should touch the firewall. If it's been stuck in another position then it may not feel like it'll go back any further.

Another tip I did was to take the spacers from the back two bolts and instead of binning them, put them on the fronts. This tilts the seat and lowers the rear. It does give you more room.

You want to try and avoid fitting a smaller steering wheel and the sterring is heavy on the esprit.

After owning mine for a few months I bought GT3 seats. This gave me an extra two inches in legroom. Any bucket seat with the bare GRP/Kevlar will give you this. I used to be nearly able to fully stretch my legs out.

Another tip is to put a boss spacer on your steering wheel. Makes a difference. You wouldn't think so but it's further away from your knees and your kneee can fit between the gap.

SE Highwing onwards has a wider tunnel. Basically any Esprit with the oval rear vents on the tailgate!

Hope this helps,
