overheating

'97 V8. Hot day.Car parked for an hour. Car started and driven two miles at 30mph with no stopping. Noticed coolant temp at the bottom of the red mark and 20 seconds later, coolant level light started to flash (oil temperature warning) Stopped and switched off for 5 minutes. Re started engine and no problems since. No coolant loss.

Any ideas OTHER THAN the obvious stuck thermostat ?

Exactly the same thing happened 18 months ago but too late to stop and the coolant boiled out of the rear wheelarch. Changed the thermostat and coolant level sensor and no trouble since (until last week)

No fun !!!!

Check the fuses and wiring to the fans. If the fans are triggered and running correctly, then I´d be looking at the radiator itself for clogging or blockages.

fans are working OK. The fault is extremely intermittent (twice in 2 years) and so shouldn't be a blockage.

Thanks, but I can't think of anything that would do this other than a stuck thermostat. Be a bit unlucky to get 2 different thermostats with the same problem though.

Another thought is an air lock, but it would probably need to be big. I'll bleed the rad before next driven....
