Ive soaked the 6 hex bolts each side in oil and now need to undo them. Im buying a set of long hex keys tomorrow as my 90degree ones wont reach. Should they just undo with a bit of leverage or is there a chance of them shearing? Should I try with a manual impact driver to crack them free first? Any one else done this recently that can advise??

Thanks

Malcolm

I found some of mine so resistant to removal that I had to get some very good quality vice grips on them, and even then one or two were not moving and started to slip in the grips so I used a hammer and punch to break them free in a rotational direction then went to normal tools.

I guess a space heater applied to the hub carrier may help as the ali should expand more than the steel bolts.

Mine were a little stiffx but theyre not held in with much torque. Its probably the thread lock and age holding them. Mine were soaked, then they went with a crack but were fine otherwise. 5mm hex bit, long reach like you mention just be carefull to make sure theyre clean and the bit sits fully into the bolt to avoid chance of chewing up the head..

i bought same hex socket set and worked great. as previously noted, make sure the allen is fully entered into the bolt head!

Cheers guys, i bought the hex key set, gave them a quick tap with the manual impact driver and they spun out nice and easy. Just the long lower bolt to remove now, oh what fun thats going to be. :)
