Am struggling to remove my alternator off of my '74 502 Elite.

I have removed the long bolt that goes through the casting on the block and have lifted it off the adjusting shaft.

The alternator now just pivots around the casting on the block and I can't get it off. Is there an insert that goes through the alternator and block? Can post a picture up tonight if it helps.....

Hi Paul

At the rear looking at the bottom pic you can see a pressed fitting sleeve. It has pulled tight to the block mounting it will come off

with a tap using a piece of wood and a prybar. Good luck it just needs a bit of persuasion.

Its off!! Thanks Alan! Now where to send it to get it refurbished? P&J Autos in Rainham (Essex) have a good rep.

Where from Michael? I've tried to search for "chrysler 1974 alternator" but I am not getting any results.

I bought mine from Autozone, they had it in stock. Think it was this one:

It's a 65 amp unit, the cheaper one has 50. I went with the bigger one cause of A/C

Managed to get a repair kit from the States in the end, only cost $29.

All cleaned up now and temporarily put back on.
