Ground issue? Please help. - Interior/Exterior/Lights/Glass/Alarms/ICE/HVAC/Other - TLF - Totally Lotus Jump to content

Alright guys, I really need some help here, I've got an issue with my N/A 2006 Exige that no one seems to be able to figure out. The best idea that anyone has come up with is a grounding issue, but I've been unable to locate it.

Here's what's happening.

Driving along normally, car is driving perfectly, then out of nowhere several things happen at once...

- ABS light turns on (and stays on)

- Speedometer goes wacky (bouncing to the top and back over and over)

- Traction Control light blinks

- Massive hesitation and the car doesn't want to drive over a few mph.

The weirdest thing is that it doesn't throw a CEL, and the car idles perfectly when I let off the gas, it's only when I try to use the accelerator that it starts to buck and everything goes haywire. After a bit of driving like I don't know how to use a clutch, the issue clears up. It has happened several times and seems to come and go as it pleases.

I replaced the battery and didn't have an issue again for 2 months, then it showed up again. I noticed that the negative battery cable was loose, so I tightened it up, and everything was fine, again, for a few weeks.

Then ast night it happened again, first thing was that the ABS light came on (and stayed on), the speedometer bounced once, and the TC light flickered. The ABS light is still on, but the car is driving fine. I started the car this morning, ABS light was still on, car started fine, idled fine. I shut it off, unhooked the negative battery cable for a minute, hooked it back up, car starts fine and idles fine again...but the ABS light is still on.

I'm about at my wits end on this one, please, someone tell me that you've heard of this before?

I think you really need to get a scan tool on there from a dealer - could be so many things, speedo bouncing issues could relate to a speed/ABS sensor (LH rear wheel) which could also be problematic for the Traction control since I guess they will all get the info from the ABS sensors on the bearing packs.

You could test the signal from all four wheel speed sensors with a scope if you have one to hand, I think its just a case of eliminating one thing at a time. At least with the ABS light on now it may be easier to locate.

Good luck though! I know how frustrating it is having had an ABS light on & intermittent speedo on my Europa for bloody ages that seemed impossible to find - was a broken wire that sometimes made connection!! Grr!

You can put all the computers you want on there ....you already know what the problem is.

There is a loose connection and i suspect either main core earth or connector .

Good luck

Technically sound ...Theoretically poked !
