After sitting for about a month with the battery disconnected (was doing engine work), my Esprit's turn indicators no longer function. I didn't touch anything within an electrical mile of them, and oddly, the four-way flashers DO still function.

Any ideas?

the four way (hazard) relay is separate to the main indicator relay.

It could either be the stalk or the relay (its the circular one under the passenger side dash)

Sue has it, I think....it's a cylindrical thingy held on by a self tapping screw through a tab welded to the top of the can. Same part as used on old Minis and countless others...it's a flasher unit with a bimetallic strip inside it to cause the thing to switch on and off and thus flash the indicators. They do just die quietly from time to time! Other than that; probably a dodgy earth somewhere...

I just had the same sort of issue with mine as well. My tip is that your know the relay when you find it as put your indicator on. Your hear the ticking, pull the relay out if the ticking stops you found the right one other wise hunt for the ticking. Mine ended up under the dash just behind the water temp. Make sure that if you get a new one that all the numbers on the pins are the same IE: L 31 R 49 E 49a then you wont go wrong..

USA cars are different apparently. All fuses and relays are on the same side in one compartment (down under the steering column) and one flasher serves both functions. Must be the switch then, although I can't wrap my head around it going Tango Uniform from no cause other than sitting for a few weeks.

UPDATE: It was the four-way flasher switch, as suggested by someone on the TurboEsprit Yahoo list. The four-way switch acts as a sort of 'selector' for which function goes through the flash relay, and the tiny little bit of white plastic inside the switch that moves to close or break the circuits had broken. Thank goodness that a binnacle-ectomy isn't needed to get at the switch! I'll be calling The Usual Suspects tomorrow to see if they've got one.
