Does anyone have experience swapping the Elite differential to something stronger? I am looking for something strong enough to handle hard use with more torque from an engine swap. LImited slip is best. Any ideas?

Firstly, welcome to the forum!

Dan's race car uses a chopped atlas, and spyder did a conversion kit called the spyder donnington which grafted in a Jag IRS, however, I'm not sure how effective the later would be - great for the drag strip, but unlikely to provide perfect geometry for an elite/eclat I would have thought.

The standard salisbury 7HA was used in the morgan +8 (in long tube format) with an lsd, but getting the centre of one of them is like finding a dentist for hens.

The 7HA isn't perhaps the strongest diff out there, but it's not too bad. Why do you want to swap it? Mine takes 300lb ft without any sign of complaint (so far). You can get an lsd centre for your standard 7HA from quaife.

The biggest downside of the 7HA is the lack of ratios suitable for v8 conversions which only rev to 5750rpm, but this is only an issue for road cars and cruising fuel consumption. If your building a track car, the shorter the better - heck, I'd use a 4.1:1 7HA.

With the spyder donnington Jag IRS, you got the perfect choice of ratios, an lsd, chunkier UJ's and inboard discs for minimal cost (dead jags were 10 a penny in the 70's & 80's). So I can see why they used them, but I'd rather keep the standard suspension layout. It handles the way it does because the original design was very effective. There aren't any lotus 23's that have had a jag IRS grafted in on the back to make them tougher...so why chop the similarly designed elite/eclat chassis unless your building a dragster.

Why is it you want to change the final drive? There are other items I'd look to uprate first.
