I wonder if someone can tell me the date of manufacture of my front tyres which are Pirelli P 600 P205/55/15 87V Made in Germany and also the following numbers on the side wall.

P21204.17

0244197

P21204.15-2

R3401

DES 926/A

and 1026

My tyre dealer says they are ancient and should be replaced but they still have 60% of tread left.

Think the date on my Pirellis is at the end of the "DOT" numbers, I was told 0408 = April 2008 etc.

Probably week 47 2004?

Hey John.

More likely week 47 1984 when the car was made. The car was off the road in 2004 so the tyres could be 1984 or 1994. The car has done some 70 000 kilometres so I would think 1994. The rubber must be as hard as hell, no wonder they are not wearing down.

Thanks for that info. The tyres look in perfect condition, but being on the front and on occasions travelling at 200 kph, when I have the chance, I think that I should replace them soon.
