Engine bay noise - help - (cause = Bulkhead loose)

Recommended Posts

Hi, i've had this problem for a while now. Thought i would have a go at sorting it today. Getting to the drivers side was easy and sorted in no time. Moved on to the passenger side, foung the bolts on the inside easy and eventually found them engine side. After quite some time and lots of cuts and grazzes on hands and arms, i gave up! Is there an easy way to get a spanner on them?

Any advice much apreciated.

Dave

I tackled this over the weekend.. and it's cured my knocking noises 100%!! That car is transformed.. marvellous!!!

What I actually did for the passneger side (UK car) we get a small 1/4 ratchet in there with a short 13mm socket.. I was able to just about wedge it between a water pipe.

I then had the use of my 15 year old nephew who skinned his nuckles (not sure what on) inside the car, with a bigger 3/8 ratchet and another 13mm socket. They tightened up a good 1mm or so, and it's made a huge difference.

I replaced the drivers side bolts completely, as these were easy to do.

In the future, I think an offset 13mm ring spanner would be the way to go, as that would fit in much easier.

And a nephew that is > 18 would probably have more strength

You can break the bolts! I broke the head off of one of mine first go round! I think a good tight versus gorilla tight should do the trick.....Locktite and new jam nuts are the way to go. Did this to mine last year and nary a clunk to date!
