Yep, now it has happened :) my first disappointment with Esprit...

We were cruising today about 50kilometers, the weather was fine then we saw my brother and took this picture

everything was fine, then I make some "sprint" with my car (just to "show") and something happened, first I thought it was a turbo broken.

Then we pushed the car nearest parking place to check what happened. I call my mechanic and we noticed the fuel pump didn't made any sound at all :angry:

So here was the result

Any idea what new fuel pump might cost? and is there any sense to get the original? There is available a Facet turbo fuel pump (for carburetor) it looks like original.

So pretty nice day until 6pm. to 11pm. but fortunately the car is now in one peace at home B)

Jussi, sorry to see your brothers Buick won the race :angry: As for the fuel pump, I dont think the Facet one has enough fuel pressure to do the job. On the carburetted Turbo Esprit, the carbs are pressurised by boost pressure 7.5/8psi standard plus you need another 4/4.5 psi on top of that ( for a total fuel pressure of 12.5 psi) Bosch do an inline pump that everyone uses that will be o.k. I think it was used in early fuel injected VW Golf GTI .You might luck out and find one in a wrecking yard cheap. Its used over here on some GM TBI injection setups (only need 15 psi fuel pressure) Dont get a pump for later fuel injection setups(40/50psi) as this is way too much pressure for a carb setup.

Golf GTI use high pressure fuel pumps also, according to my friend who has some knowledge about VW:s and Porches.

What's the item no. of fuel pump, or serial that we could find replacement. Just visited local electric-shop and they have no clue what pump might be useful, though we haven't yet removed old pump to compare it.

Best solution is to know Bosch Fuel pump's item no. my mechanic have Bosch's spare parts list. So if anyone has changed Bosch's fuel pump to Esprit, please let me know it's item no (spare part number).

Just don't get this secondary pump, cause there is just one pump.

Main issue here is will this Bosch 0580-254-967 GFP 208 be the right fuel pump for me?

Its ok talking with your self just watch out for the men in white coats. :angry:

I wish I could help but can only take a guess that the primary pump is the one that's best to use and the secondary can be used if the primary pump is not available.

( As I say this is only my way of reading it)

Hope you get it sorted soon (nice car)

Oops! sorry Wayne I've been too busy on forums so I forgot to read my emails :angry:

Hopefully we take the fuel pump out tomorrow and can order new one on monday. Let's hope all goes well B)

Is this 12,5psi right for new pump's fuel pressure (is it enough)?

Just asking a question here out of interest with the problem.

If a BOSCH higher PSI fuel pump be installed would this require a fuel regulator valve to ensure the carbs don't get flooded ?

Just going back to my Triumph TR6 days when we replaced the Lucas fuel pump with a Bosch conversion and the PSI of the original lucas was about 110psi but even that has a fuel pressure regulator valve PRV.

Guess I'm asking if the carb fuel cutoff/float valves can cope.

Sorry if I'm asking old news, but am interested.

Esprit has as a standard this fuel regulator valve but I think that's not enough if you put 55psi pressure on it...results might be catastrophic.

Esprit's fuel pressure regulator is adjustable. It has adjustment screw top of it.

We took the fuel pump out today. It's Bosch pump 0 580 464 019.

We checked Bosch-book (year 1995) and couldn't find from what car is it, but we managed to find it from that book. Tomorrow we go to local shop to order the pump B)

I measured pressure from my original Lucas fuel pump yesterday, and after ruining my 20psi gauge came up with 60psi! So the pumps are high pressure fuel injection types after all :angry: Jussis Bosch p.n. applies to a few cars inc. Vauxhall Astra GTI, BMW 3/5 series, Peugeot 309/405/505, and Renault 11/18/19. That fuel press regulator really has to work! :)

My mechanic just call, he has been at local "fuel pump shop" to finding new pump.

This 0 580 464 019 had been replaced by 0 580 464 070 years ago!

This... 070 pump is quite common it's used Lancia, Fiat, Jaguar and Austin.

They haven't got any pump at shop but new shipment is coming, maybe even today...so things are going well. Still I don't know any specs from that pump.

This pump ( 0 580 464 070) arrived today, total cost 130euros!

We changed it and it really works fine :) what a relief!

Here is a picture from that new pump:

and here are the new and old one, new one is a little bigger than the old one and connections are different. We made some tuning for other connector that it could fit.

I'm almost happy now :rolleyes:

Because the clutch seems to take very early and now I'm afraid that it may need some work :angry: Couldn't check fluids cause clutch fluid reservoir was stucked, will check it later. Hope it just needs adjusting!

But afterall today I managed to drive with my Esprit B)

Today we checked clutch fluids, there weren't much left :rolleyes:

So we add new and bleeded it, now it's working just fine B)

We know the problem, we found it last autumn and I have ordered parts (waiting almost 2months now) :angry: So we change clutch repair kit to stop the leak. Just got email from store, they have my parts in next week, so summer is coming afterall...just waiting to get longer journey with Esprit B)
