Engine Mount Support

gpz900r

Question

umm thought that I had just broken another engine mount but I was wrong, my left side engine mount is loose and I can turn it clock wise or anticlock wise which can mean only one thing, there is no weight on the engine mount, so what the heck is my engine resting on? Any ideas?

The engine has 4 mounts including the 2 supporting the gearbox. Are all these tight? I guess you jacked up the car to look underneath to check the mount. Where did you put the jack? Perhaps that took some load off the mount.

Guest Troy Halliday

Did you put all the washers back in when you replaced the engine mounts?

I know it's a smile question but it's alwways best to start with the obvious

On the series 1 Esprit, the driveshafts serve as upper suspension links as well, transferring suspension loads through the Engine /Transaxle to the chassis via the engine mounts. So the mounts serve to locate the rear suspension as well as the Engine/Trans. Hopefully there is a shim missing or the mount is just not tight enough. The worst case scenarios are the mount is bent or the suspension on one side is missaligned or damaged (incorrect height?) loading the engine more on one side than the other.

Had it up on the ramp today and infact the engine mount right hand side is off! Its so clean that I think it was afterall just a faulty mount
