Rear Caliper help ! 88 n/a

Recommended Posts

Just run into problems after having both rear calipers reconditioned. ... The left hand side piston will not retrack all the way back ... They now say this maybe beyond repair (Think it was due to the handbrake mech) .. It looks like my options are very limited ... Any ideas on sourcing another caliper ? ... Thanks

Hi Mark, that's a familiar looking motor, do I follow a Facebook page you run?!

Anyway, I swapped out my '88 Turbo rears for some Brembos over Christmas and the olds are still in my garage. The O/S seemed pretty buggered to me, binding and not winding back in like yours, but I've had no trouble from the left. It's not recently reconditioned but if you're interested PM me and I can do you a few photos.

I've just remembered I had to drill the handbrake cable bracket to free the cable, but you could transfer yours over if you can free it without doing the same, IIRC it's bolt-on.

Hi Mark, sorry to hear the bad news!

I PM'd you back at half eight last night... photos and price included, maybe I waffled on for too long about the condition and you missed it :D

The left hand side piston will not retrack all the way back

Are the pistons supposed to come to a hard stop when you wind them back? I was winding one of my pistons back (clockwise) and when the top of the piston was quite far back (just a mm or so above the face of the caliper and well clear of where the pads would be), it kept turning, but it wouldn't go back further. However, it would wind out without any problems (from the first turn anticlockwise). Are they designed like this?

Thanks

Cheers

Ian
