'98 Esprit V8 Wiper

Recommended Posts

Had my V8 almost a year - Bought it from a Lotus Garage and it came with a 1 year "warranty". First drive over 85 and the wiper was "blown" round its arc of travel by around 250mm. Nice man at the garage said it was "normal" - Really need some advice. Has anyone suffered from the same or should I push for a F.O.C. replacement.

That doesn't sound normal to me. When I drove a v8 at over 150* the wiper stayed put as far I can remember! Also, with the newer mech on GT3's I've never seen that problem!

*err, on a track!

Try running the wiper on the fast speed and see if it travels off the side of the window or hits the return stop. If it does it sounds like the spigot where the arm joins the motor is worn and the arm is slipping slightly.

Yep - Definitely hits the rubber buffer at the down position - don't recall it running off the screen at the up position. I can "wobble" the entire assembly up and down the screen - Again, demonstrated this to the garage and got the "That's normal" response. I will be seeing them on Wednesday (3rd trip to sort the aircon!) - Had a new compressor fitted (under warranty) and it still doesn't work. Just in case we get a summer, it would be nice to have it working. Rest of the car is Tip-top so I guess I cant complain.

Hi, it would be interesting to know which "Lotus garage"?

Renu's V8 s350 has been double the uk speed limit a few times and has no problems with the wiper.

hope you get it sorted

Trivial question that's related. I could do with a new wiper blade. Any recommendations. I always use to get Bosch deflector ones, but with the rake of the windscreen in the lotus I wondered whether these were pointless. What length is the wiper anyway. Anybody?

PS Never had a problem with my wiper coming up at speed by the way. Same car as you as well.
