Some small progress.

I've managed to get the engine looking a little better now...

Before (7 years ago when I got the car). Nice drop of red Hammerite...

And how it looks today...

My original head had been skimmed within an inch of its life so I had to source a replacement head and my cam carriers were also worn so I spent an hour at Lotus Bits sorting through a pile of used ones to find a couple of good replacements.

It needed new pistons, liners, shells, valves, valve guides, oil pump, refurbished water pump and all new gaskets.

Total bill including the machining work £3,500. The hardest part of the restoration so far has been hiding all the receipts from my wife   And my new definition of a Lotus is a hole in the garage in which to throw money!

Paul.

Good work Paul. Looking really nice. Come on though you rally need to get this one done and on the road.

Buddsy  :D

I know, I know, I'm throwing money at it at an alarming rate at the moment to try and move it on.

However, I don't want to finish too quickly as I have to then start working on my 1965 e-type which is an even bigger money pit!!

Cheers, Paul.
