Hi all,

Both my doors drop off the latch when open... there is no play in the hinges, shut lines are good, but both lift up onto the lock when closing and drop when opening. I will play with them again, but is this common/is there a trick to getting it right?

Cheers

One of three things has to be happening, brackets moving (as John indicated), hinge warn or door shell loose on beam (I doubt that).

Is it that the shut lines are correct when the doors are closed and have been lifted up a bit by the catches? If so, then you will have to adjust the hinges. They are fastened by the nuts....34 in the drawing...accessible through the cover plates in the inside trim. It'll be an iterative process....!! You could try it with the doors shut and the shut lines set....then tighten the nuts up so that they grip. Mine still has very coarse emery cloth as friction material, it's been fine since I assembled it back in 1997?8? !! The other way would be to loosen the lower a bit more than the upper, with the door catch end supported on a jack...then jack it up a smidgen, tighten the fasteners and check the fit. Repeat as necessary.......

The catch end is also adjustable, so you can move the steel hoop that's on the car or the catch on the door, iirc....don't ever undo the body catch hoop fully or there will be a gentle tinkle as the nutplate falls down inside.....!!

yes I think the shutlines are good with the door closed... I'll try adjusting with the door closed, hadn't thought of that.  I have iterated a few times already... just more tinkering needed.

Good to hear that I should be able to get it right, that it's not a 'Lotus thing...'

Where are the bits of emery paper supposed to be located? My doors also have this problem but I didn't refit the bits of sandpaper as I thought they were just shims. However, I can't remember where they came from or which way they were facing.

I did them with the doors shut, worked very well on passenger side, better on drivers side but not perfect yet.  Now I think the door has to slide forward a bit so I'll have to do that with the door open a bit... more fiddling, but getting there.

Thanks all

Simon
