OK, I have succumbed to a higher presence and uploaded photographs of SHMBO new toy. Matching colours to the S4 which I will say is the Superior Vehicle. Sorry guys it’s not the usual type of car on here but I suppose it is a Lotus. So if you happen to see a dejected shortish person, sitting cross legged on the grass verge, probably rolling a cigarette at the side of the road alongside a rather dejected and cosmetically challenged but mechanically perfect Lotus Elan SE M100 Turbo somewhere in the North East of Scotland please do me a favour and at least give her a wave on the way past and if you are feeling really generous you could always stop and let her use your phone to call for help.

The worrying bit for me is when reading through her history file I find the thing has been chipped, had a sports exhaust fitted, a dump valve and an induction kit. I knew the thing was a bit nimble but now I am a bit worried with this particulat person driving. I also found a printout from a rolling road test where it was reading 186 Bhp at 5200 RPM, for a lightweight little car I recon thats going to have a bit of grunt, now then should I be worried as this driver is the person who previously took my S3 to various shows up and down Scotland and I had to make sure that she had an escort to see that she behaved herself, thats the driver not the car.

Cheers BIB's, joined LEC last week but have to say not a patch on TLF, still waiting for responses from my first queeries, also need a load of parts for her as in every fitting for holding the speado head inside the binnacle is missing, she has at some point been fitted with an electronic boot release which no longers works so is opened with a piece of wire, the central locking only works on one door so she cant be locked, the roof needs a bit of work as in the usual new seals etc and the boot lid needs a paint due to the usual paint peel. Mechanically she has had a fortune spent on her after being in long term storage, poly bushed, new rad, fans coolant hoses, all the belts, brakes and discs all round a full service plus loads more and most of her previous history comes from F1 Lotus at Newcastle which I now believe have changed their name and from GTS so all looks good otherwise.

Nardi wheel, tell me more. I knew this car was going to be controversial, now SHMBO is asking about a hartop conversion, have you seen what they are asking for one of them if you can get one that is. Replacement soft top at South West Lotus, £400 plus up to one days time to fit and adjust.

It's exactly the same one you've got in your Esprit.

A number of Elans came with them as standard, not sure if they were an option tick box or not, but they look SO much better than the other one that's fitted.

Ask James, you may get lucky in that one of the ones he's breaking was fitted with one.

James is a bit of an Elan fan himself, his wife has one as a daily drive and they were both very complimentary of them.

I heard someone in the North Kent Group was dabbling in hardtop's. I had a feeling it was for an M100, but not 100% certain.

I will try to find out more for you John.

On the excel? No, mate - no chance to look at it Mon-Fri as it is offsite and I work long hours. I'll just buy some new plugs and leads and give it a service and clean up cap and rotor. Will put a cupfull of paraffin and nail varnish remover in with the fuel and let it run through in case the hesitation is not electrical and is car related.

It was some other chap that was asking about which was the best plug to use - I'm usually not that plug fussy.
