Brake servo problem?

Recommended Posts

Hi Dave - if you mean the four bolts that are on the back of the servo body with a nut that fits a 13mm spanner, it's a standard pitch M8.  Well mine is anyway  ^_^   Glad you got there in the end !

Oh, and has the 'ch-ch-ch' noise and rev drop gone ?

Standard pitch M8?  Damn... my (obviously wrong) research had given me a 5/16" UNF nut.  I know a 1/2" wrench was working to undo the nuts.  If not I'll grab some M8s.

Rev drop and ch-ch-ch gone so once that last nut is in there I'm good to go.

Now Lotusbits told me that you can't get hold of servo rebuild kits any more, which goes slightly against the research I'd done (especially the research that told me the servo is from a Mk2 Ford Escort).  If they're right though, is there any point in keeping it?

Turns out my Esprit S1 servo is different to yours, it seems the part numbers on the SJ website are different on the Eclat so you may well be right on the 5/16 UNF.  Regarding the full rebuild kits, yes I am led to believe the diaphragm is unobtainable.  The guys at http://www.jlspares.co.ukmay have other options for you.

Tried fishing around the back of the carpet with a magnet? For that kind of situation, I usually attach a magnet at the end of wire and let it fall in the area. Works most of the time.

Good luck

Something I learned about cars or planes, it all works until it doesn't anymore...sometime there is no way around it!

Just reviving this thread with a question. Only my second post so please bear with me if I've not got the etiquette right …

The brake servo on my '79 Lotus Elite 504 has gone, so I found a s/h Saab 900 replacement from Two Stroke to Turbo (a very helpful Saab specialist in Hertfordshire).

The mounting bolts on both sides fit, so it attaches both to the engine bay and the master cylinder as expected. It also looks exactly the same.

However, the link rod that attaches to the pedal is a fixed length, whereas the Lotus original has an adjustable rod. So the Saab one doesn't fit

Anyone else had this problem and found a way around it? Or any other thoughts?

Many thanks.

Hi.

I haven't worked on an Elite/ Eclat (excluding the Excel), but looking at the images fro this servo repair kit it appears that the lever is removable so I'd suggest you can swap over the rod.

I have a noise coming from my servo in the esprit turbo.

After reading this forum I'll replace the non-return valve first.

The servo unit isn't available new from what I've found and I don't want to send a core unit to England.

In case it's not the non-return valve, is there an equivalent servo that will fit the esprit turbo 1983 model ?

I think it's Girling part no. 74049164R

From what I've found it looks like the rebuild kit isn't available either so I don't know if I can even get mine rebuilt.
