Squealing power steering

Recommended Posts

When taking the car out yesterday i noticed the power steering was making a squealing noise when you turn the wheel, it sounds like the belt is slipping.

I've not yet looked to see where it is or how easy it is to adjust, i'm going to get it on a ramp on Wednesday but wondered if anyone has had a similar problem & can advise me if its easy to do.

Cant find any pics of it anywhere on here or LEW.

Thanks for your help chaps

Couple of weeks ago i had a nasty expensive sounding rattling and clattering noise that turned out to be the top bolt for the PAS pump which had come loose and was rattling against the pulley and pulley boss.

I tightened it all back up - had to remove the pulley to do this which ideally needs two or three hands all sprouting from the same wrist but anyway, got it sorted.

Today the noise came back for a while, then went. On investigation, the bolt has now vanished, which is odd because in theory I don't think it can come out without removing the pulley. Maybe it got minced up first.

Anyway, can anyone tell me the bolt size so I can get one before I take it to bits again?

This time I will add shakeproof washers and loctite everywhere.

Doesn't seem to have affected the belt tension at all.

cheers
