Panel light dimmer

Recommended Posts

Quick one for anyone electrically minded - a minor niggle but my panel illumination dimmer has stopped working for the binnacle - yet continues to dim the centre panel..

I've been studying the wiring diagrams and have come to no real conclusions. Switching the lights on provides a 12v to both the centre and binnacle lamps according to the diagram with both circuits - they are initially separate - terminating at two different terminals on the rheostat.

Also of note - if you pull the rheostat the centre panel doesn't illuminate but the binnacle does.

Minor as it is, it has intrigued me to the point I must now fix it...any thoughts or suggestions?

Had the same problem. I found the wires to the reostat in the steering cowling needed resoldering. Problem caused by the reo becoming loose and therefore working the solder joints over time. After resoldering I blobbed the area with a glue gun and made sure the reo was firmly refitted.

Dan's right a loose connection perhaps from banging it once too often with ones leg. If that is not it you have to replace the switch. Either way you will solder.
