Engine removal - how to

I used the Krikit tool made by gates, a LOT cheaper. Also good in tight spots. Looks flimsy but it works.

Porsche bet the life of my 993 fan belt on it, it is a factory approved tool.

Something I learned about cars or planes, it all works until it doesn't anymore...sometime there is no way around it!

Or you can measure the frequency to determine the tension. 100 to 110Hz, which is how I did my last 2 belt changes. One was done with the engine on the workbench, the other in the car without even a lift, not nearly as bad as I had feared!

I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them.

I have both gauges (the Burroughs and the Krikit) and the readings will not be the same on both. So 90 on the Burroughs does not relate to 90 on the Krikit (I think it works out at 55 or somewhere near there). There is some information on this in the Yahoo group by the mighty Tim Engel :unworthy:

I would be sceptical about using a frequency method with the original spring loaded tensioner.

Frequency method is only applicable to the 910's with the fixed tensioner :)

AFAIK the 100 - 110 frequency specification is only for the HTD Belt with the round teeth.

True dat.

When it comes to the SE onwards with the fixed tensioner belt changes are a relaxed affair. I did mine on axle stands mostly from underneath.

As for the V8, I ain't touching that. I believe the change interval is 4 years though.
