  1. Just checked the outside diameter of mine and they are just under 70mm which is quite adequate. I guess the manufacturers cater for their market and on the whole Jap car owners do seem to like big bore jobbies.
  2. As far as I can make out its part number A082G61113S this could be a long search. Just remembered I did mention its the rear 18 inch one
  3. I think I have just about phoned every Lotus agent/dealer I can find and it would appear that the centre caps are unobtainable looked on e-bay etc so if anyone has any ideas or indeed a rear 18 inch 2001 OZ racing centre cap please let me know. Just had a thought were there any at the recent parts sale?
  4. You're right it's a fine line between correct and Carlos Fandango
  5. I am a new owner of a V8 Esprit and today took it along to a gathering of the Hampshire Jap Car Club as I was fairly active as a member with my RX7. I had some interesting comments but the cracker was surely the comment that the Esprit had a pea shooter diameter exhaust this was an interesting comment which came from someone with a 1.5 litre Honda Civic with an exhaust pipe diameter of about 4 inches plus, the comment was not made in a dismissive manner just an honest observation. It's made even more impact because mine has the 'Sports exhaust' which i think has a larger diameter than standard.
  6. The bit of the race I watched showed the car coming in with smoke pouring out the back
  7. Both makes seem to be the instrument of choice but then again people like Buddy Millar who played guitar with Emmyou Harris and now with Robert Plant gets a unique sound from vintage Wandre guitars. I managed to collect over a period of about 20 years playing with my band a number of pre CBS Fenders which I have to say sold like hot cakes on e-bay a few years back
  8. I've just completed a waterproofing project/job on a block of flats in Southsea in which the residents had the option of decking (my preferred option) or 'Astro-Turf', real Astro Turf is expensive as are any of these products, cheap ones are awful. If you lay it on a grass surface weeds etc will grow through so you will have to lay a polythene type membrane to stop this. Ideally if you were to deck it out you would have the option of putting an Astro-Turf type material over it. The more expensive material is very good at absorbing body impact from a fall etc. in fact the off cuts were so good I have cut them up for knee pads.
  9. Very clever of the Amercans to bury his body at sea, no memorial or anything he's just gone.
  10. I've been having a look around for tyres as well and notice that Toyo T1r's are available that match front and rear. Has anyone fitted these to their Esprit? I have a very positive opinion of these tyres as I had them on my RX7 which weighed about 1380 Kilo's and produced around 400 bhp and in some ways had a similar weight distribution to the Esprit. I used the car fairly extensively on track and never had a problem in the dry but did not really get the chance to use them on track in the wet, but on the road in the wet they weren't too bad although as with the Esprit on wet roads I did tend to be a bit overcautious.
  11. I'm rather hoping that the roads will be clear of the usual trafic as everyone will hopefully either be indoors or in the pub watching it
  12. Thanks called them this morning no luck I'll try a few other Lotus dealers
  13. Hi Matt, I'm back in a Lotus again, see you Monday
  14. I have just noticed that one of the rear centre caps is too small I'm assuming that someone has mistakenly put a front cap on the rear. At some time someone has sprayed the wheels Gunmetal metallic to match the bodywork so I need to source one of the larger rear centre caps and get it sprayed I've looked on e-bay but have not been able to find one does anyone know of another source?
  15. Thanks, its going to have to be done so might as well get anything else sorted at the same time having read through a lot of the posts here might as well get the tanks checked as well.
  16. I have been looking at the various website prices that independants charge for cam belt replacement as these seem to be in the region of £600-700 am I right in thinking this is taking the engine to undertake the work? one other reason I would like to know is that my car has developed a blowing sound on one side and a quick visit to a fellow V8 owner yesterday confirmed that the one stud was missing and the other you could just about put a nut on but this did not improve the situation. As the belt was last changed in 2009 I thought i might as well start with a clean sheet and upgrade all the studs and change the cambelt and bits.
  17. Can anyone advise me how to get hold of the front and side indicators I looked at a site but could not put them in the basket am I doing something wrong?
  18. I have to say a number of us have strayed to other cars over the 10 or 12 years we've been meeting on the first monday of every month but as a bunch of laid back mainly part time owners of these cars it's worth coming along. I'm rubbish at posting pictures so wont even attempt to do so. As this is now my only car I'll be taking it along on the 4th April if it doesn't rain ( limp wristed I know but the car has not been out in the rain so why break with traddition) there is normally at least one Lotus there, we're generally the scruffy bunch of people at the bar.
  19. Lovedean which is between Portsmouth and Petersfield. I've had a Lotus on and off for a long time having bought a Europa in 1971 and still meet the Club Lotus guys on a Monday at the Hogs Lodge Clanfield way.
  20. Hi, i'd like to introduce myself as a new owner of an Esprit V8. On Tuesday I was on my way to a Porsche dealer to do a deal on a 2002 911 Turbo which despite its image had turned out to be about the best car I had tested having a £30K budget and having tried Maserati's and other exotica. Anyway due to a bit of a spat with the Porsche dealer over my Subaru SVX part exchange value which was not what they promised I walked out telling them to go **** themselves and phoned the guy I had previosly called about the Esprit he was a bit abrupt having had a few 'people' test driving it and not having the money. In the garage was a lovely looking 2001 Esprit in metallic grey with matching wheels I drove it and bought it straight away the guy selling the Esprit looked at my SVX and said tell me about that car of yours so I did and he bought it on the spot so I suppose it saved me having to drive it home.
