  1. Thanks everyone.

I have to admit I hadn't considered the body being designed (either deliberate or accidental) to vary in width.

Yes mine is a later sub frame and it has the running gear of a 92(ish), Later transaxle etc (that's why I initially put this in the stevens area) as I didn't know if the top & bottom links would be different compared to the G body with a Citroen transaxle.

Im probably going to have to take several measurements aren't I? different points of the body, different point of the sub frame, repeat each side and see what I find.

I guess if it had thinner wheels which didn't stick out as far I wouldn't be able to spot it so easily.

    Andy

  2. Has anybody found that the body of their car is not in line with the subframe?

I was looking at the wheel alignment today and stumbled on the fact that the body of my car is approx 5mm off centre at the rear.

One rear wheel is approx 10mm further in from the edge of the car then the other side.

If i had adjustable rear links I could understand it.

I know I need to replace the suspension bushes as mine are old (I think it was Kato that said he didn't want to be following me round the track based on how bad they are). But I don't think worn bushes would account for such a large movement of the wheel/ body alignment.

    Any ideas?

I am considering loosening the body once all bushes have been replaced, and attempting to correct it then.

  3. So Paul, you think I have got the best of both worlds.

    G body & Chargecooler?

I have to admit, I still thionk the G body is "cleaner" in its lines, and I guess the exra 55bhp doesn't go amis.

    Andy.

p.s. found out today how they easily fitted a chargecooler to the existing radiator.......

They used the air con rad for the cooler- it works, but a bit excessive.

  4. Bibs, I'm not deliberately trying to big you up but I honestly can't see how you could have improved the weekend! The only small comment is that visibilty of the cars in Yarmouth was poor to the passing public, i.e behind a big wall. Maybe next time a car park more visible, or alternatively maybe a banner stretched between lampposts etc to advertise our presence?

Once again though only a small comment, I thought the event was superb and I'm sure an accurate reflection on the quality of planning and thought that went in backstage.

To be fair to everybody who helped organise the GtYarmouth carpark, they are all pretty much hidden from the road with the exception of the most dangerous one (that's the bit that should be a central reservation for pedestrians crossing the road, remember the bit where we had to drive though to turn around to get to the car park).

  5. Terrible new to hear of the accident, but you've just got to look at the positive side.

Your Esprit is no more, but the important things are, nobody was killed, and you walked away.

You can replace evry bit of an Esprit / just buy another, but even the best medical science can't do that for you.

All the best and have fun buying the next Esprit.

    Andy

I remember going bakwards down the A11 near the Haverhill junction, that was bad enough, but thankfuly nobody was around, and I only spun about 540 degrees, missing all the kerbs and crash barriers. I hate to think how you felt at the time.

  6. Fantastic couple of days, could have asked for better, really couldn't have asked for anything that good. Everything appeared to go smoothly, I guess it wasn't easy behind the scenes. But thanks.

Even the weather wasn't really against us, have you got some "special" connections there as well?

    Thanks to everyone involved.

    Andy

  7. Been mucking about with it (the Turbo one) all day, don't feel I've achieved much though.

It still needs a lot of work before the restoration is complete, it's not going to be con, just respectable.

Today, fit some carpets, I'm sick of the noise form dirt hitting the undersides of the floor.

Fit the passenger seat, OK, swap form original to bucket, so I have a black car interior with 2 black seats instead of of 1 black and one dove blue.

Sort out the mirrors, well bodge the mirrors, can't find why they've lost power,so I now have no power to cigarettte lighter socket on the drivers door, the power wire is curently on the window switch.

Sort out why the passenger mirror isn't reponding correctly since the door card went on, oops little black wire connected to wrong black recepticle.

Block off the hole in the wheel arch where the top suspesion bolt comes through.

    And so ends one day.

Oh yes, I did spend a few hours cleaning it , but it will take more than that for it to be loking good.

    Andy

  8. I have a big back-up plan, I'm not filling the boot of the Turbo with tools, i'm bringing my mobile , and my Big saloon car with it's V6 engine can be calle dinto play with a tow rope, or lots of tools, wire, fuses, relays, bulbs, you name it....

I'm a few miles from Wensum golf & Hethel so have offered to assist if anybody needs it. Bibs has my mobile number , opr drop me aline if anybody wants it.

    Andy

  9. Iwas speaking to another Esprit owner joining us on the factory day & Sunday, and he (John) mentioned the A47 road works that will be in force at the time.

    Copy from http://www.rac.co.uk/web/trafficnews/incid...&category=L

    NORFOLK

A47 Eastbound Acle Overnight roadworks (20:00 - 06:00) with the road closed and a signed diversion in operation due to maintenance work.

    Start: Monday 09 October 2006 20:00

    Finish: Saturday 28 October 2006 06:00

The road will be open at the times we travel Sunday, but what condition will the road be in?

Bibs, you were going to talk to Norfolk Constabulary, did they have any conditions on the route?

Would it be better if people travelled another route that will not have "ramps" in the tarmac surface?

Do we have a block booking with a chiropractor?

  10. 1986 Turbo- well the body is.

It has 1992 sub frame & running gear so...

    Later gearbox

    later brakes

later suspension setup with dual adjustable dampers

Wheels & tyres etc from later car (S4)

Engine modded to 1992 spec, Liners ect, just using origianl block, head, turbo etc.

    Electrical charge cooler pump.

    Gren cotton filter

    Bailey dump valve

    Larini SS exhaust

    Stainless braided brake pipes

    Dash binacle from 1992.

Interior modded to remove roof mounted clock.

    seats changed

    Interior changed to black

Allegedly this car was modded up to 300 BHP, but as I've not had it on the road propperly yet, I don't know.

with only 3 weeks to go and a lot to do I'm concerned it may not get done in time.

  11. Sorry, but I think you should both be excluded as Leighton drives a tonka toy! ;):D

I know I'm getting old, but the Tonka toys I remember had a decent proportion of metal in them, and didn;t have a 600cc engine that sounds like a grass strimmer.

Now if you'd said they're more like MrPotato head, I could see the resemblance, you decide which colour, which style etc and rip bits off and fit the different bits.

The poor guy had it less than 6 months, stopped round a friend's house for a few drinks, woke up, wondered where his car was. His "friend had "borrowed" it, and smashed it up. Due to an insurance cock-up or six, it took ages to fix, then ages to get it fixed propperly- I can say that as I saw it after LIND BMW said they had finished it (one wheel 10mm further forward than the other).

At one point, somebody had given him a toy from a Kinder egg, of a SMART roadster, just to remind him what his car looked like.

  12. On behalf of Leighton

    200

    1 - Leighton Howe

2 - He drives a SMART roadster, it isn't made of steel, does it count?

    3 - Guest - no

    4 - No lives locally

    5 - no

    6 - no

    7 - no8 - Norwich

He looked so gutted at work today when somebody said I was going, so I thought I'd better try and get him there.

Andy, maybe I could claim he needs to give some unpaid assistance on getting the Turbo car ready....

  13. so far then

    Howard (esprit350)

    Graham (backmarker)

    Dave (oneshot)

    Nick (nicksoldies)

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I'm going to say, "I may be there", it depends on the roadworthiness of an esprit.

The seemingly never ending wobble on front braking with the S3 or the Turbo with it's engine not back in yet ( was planning to finish it before attempting the S3, but wobble got too bad).

    Andy

  14. if you cant shoot her then sterilise her, we are too soft .

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Given time she will drive illegally again ( hopefull after the secure stint), and it is likely she'll have an accident.

If she's stupid enough to kill herslf in the acient then she could qualify for a mention in the Darwin awards for services to the gene pool.

Lets just hope she doesn't steal an Esprit- as it could be one of ours.

    Andy

  15. Hi Andy,

Well I met Keith at the Oxford meet, and he's met marvin, so there may be a small Esprit meet some time in Norwich, if you are local and wished to come along. let me know if you want to be contacted about it

    cheers

    James

(I am in the Blue GT3 which drives past the airport Ind Est everyday)

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yep, lets meet up, by that time I hope to have the blue one on the road (42 hours 9 mins 'till the MOT test starts on it, not that I'm counting it down).

Now why haven't I noticed a GT3 going past? Although I have walked round the business estate to look at the Europa TC - mine is a Special so pretty much the same.

    Andy.

Drop me a line when the gathering is to be planned.

  16. CAT replacement pipe fitted then?

Mine does that, sounds feckin' loud, like a shotgun.

    db

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Could also have been mine. Having ignition switch problems, it lost ignition power, caries on putting fuel through, then when you touch the switch it fires again, only thing is you have a few revs worth of un-burned fule/air mix in the exhaust- so it meets the hot gasses and "pop".

Thankfully ignition switch fixed now, and the gentle backfire of a tuned engine being backed off is nothing compared to that sound that the S3 made for those 2 days when I had the issue.

    Andy

  17. doh, totally forgot about this, but had friends over anyway. How about you two come along to the Bird in hand Elise meet? Was at Dunston, but changing for the first time this month to Bird in Hand, the Lotus local....see Seloc regions for details

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Certainly up for a pub meet, hopefully driving the turbo by then- although if I meet another person like the Nisaan Sunny driver I did today I may have to drive anything other than the S3- he had a damn good go at ramming me off the road.

But I wil need reminding, memory like a goldfish.

    Andy

  18. 2 blokes, nice shirts in red (s3?)Esprit, approaching lights next to Porclenosa(sp?) near Norwich Airport.

    Looking good!  :)

I was in Skoda, so you may not have seen me....

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I was probably on my way to/ from one of our work sites. We have the building next to the airport where KLM used to be.

i was probably muttering about something so Skoa, Lotus, QE2 could have been there and I'd have probably not noticed if it wasn't infront of me.

    Andy.

p.s yes it is an S3.

  19. Hi,

Spotted a Red Esprit (Reg HPJ) on the Fakenham Road, Norwich yesterday at around 7pm.

Could not make out the model as I could not keep up in my Hyundai GIT GSI courtesy car, boy what a car.

    Keith

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

That was me. It's soon going. To may way for its "sister" who had a bit of a nip and tuck. An 85 Turbo body, with 92 running gear and engine etc. Blue.

HPj is naturally aspirated but has full Turbo body kit ( sills, bumpers etc ) you can spot odd differences like no tailgate lock.

a-clements.co.uk has some pics but nothing recent.
