  1. I had fun, too.

More so once I overcame the initial frustration of not being able to hear most of the speeches and sound because of some of the "other" superfans. 🙂 It all eased when I realised  that I can watch the whole thing at some point and that I was just enjoying it differently as it was happenning

Have to admit I felt a bit cold at first realising that we were going to act as marketing stunts, but I have just realised I was on screen (and on Harry's Garage video, nonetheless) just behind Matt Windle when he was doing his opening speech and have to confess that I smiled.

All in all I think it was a good idea and happy to be part of it. Thanks to Bibs and those at Lotus who came up with the idea for this. 👍

  2. I am in a similar position to yours, as I am planning taking the car to the Black Forest, but I will have the car serviced beforehand. I do not want to be concerned every morning about whether the lights will be on or not... I just hope the dealer will spot the issue beforehand.

For some perspective, I had a similar situation a few years ago when going to the Bavarian alps with the car, my then wife and the two kids... on the first long trip with the car... All sorts of lights popped up 100 kms. after we started the trip. I went back to the dealer but they couldn't do anything but have the codes removed...  I decided to take my chances and drive to Bayern anyway, after 200 kms of detour and a few hours... (maybe that explains the divorce...) The car worked fine from there on but I agree it is anything but reassuring.

Whenever my car has played similar trickery, it was never too serious, but it is true that the last thing you want is to be permanently looking at the dashboard or by the side of the road instead of enjoying nice views from your planned hotel.

Obviously, please take my comments with a pinch of salt, as they just represent my vety limited experience and only you can decide what is best.

  3. I can only empathise... Mine sleeps in a garage and has been on the trickle charger for a few days now. Took it out on saturday (in the sun) for one hour. All good. Get back to the car after a four hours long walk in the sun. Forced idle and codes again. Clear codes. All good (well, it stalled on neutral just when getting home). Park it in the garage, all good. Put the contact sunday morning, just to check, and it throws traction control and CEL lides at me... Misterious, really, but the closest I have had in the past was a similar behaviour (stalling) related to the brake pedal sensor.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to provide any useful input before you leave, as my car´s maintenance is due in a fortnight. I would carry an OBD reader and an app on your phone.

Is it maybe jealousy and attention seeking because the Emira is being released tomorrow?

  4. I wii bite...

Hm. You seem to go more often than not for the underdog. You seem to have already covered Mercedes. I don´t think Audi (or VW/Porsche 914) quailifies as a Porsche rival. NSU seems to be a wild bet (eventhough a Ro 80 is a pretty interesting and forward thinking machine). A Ford Capri does probably not qualify as German, despite being built there, and I assume you would not go for a Turbo, so I would guess a BMW E9, a series 02 (2002 ti?) or a related member, maybe a Touring version?

    Older still, maybe?

  5. Thanks for your thoughts.

Will start with charging the battery as suggested... it is also the one originally supplied with the car. At least I don’t think it has been changed in my ownership, so maybe it is on its way out.

All the other suspects will be checked thereafter.

    Thanks again

  6. Thanks!

I will start with properly charging  the battery. It has been off the CTEK charger lately, so that may be an easy explanation.

it is due its annual maintenance in three weeks, so I will start from there and have Komotec check the possible root cause.

It does not seem too serious but I would not want to damage something by using the car.

  7. My Evora is now showing some erratic behavior... I would appreciate your help in finding out/guessing why I randomly have a forced idle and slight delayed throttle response. I have had now the car throwing twice a CEL and traction control light. When cleared, it normally runs smoothly, but today the forced idle came back once and then disappeared. I attach a picture of the codes I got this last time (this morning when I had to cancel joining  a nice run out with some Lotuses and Porsches... brrr)

    Any clues? TIA

  8. Funnily enough, before the codes popped up, mine was sometimes struggling a bit to get pushing from low speed or out of a crossroad in second gear with some coughing, etc.. After the codes were cleared, it pulls much better now. They seem to have a character of their own, these things.

I have had the brake pedal sensor greased, the MAF sensor cleaned and now this to fix similar issues, so they all seem to be "characterful" parts of the car and a likely source of annoyances.

I am sorry I cannot be of more help.

  9. Throttle actuator / throttle body?

I know it is different because yours does not throw a code, but mine threw a CEL light and traction control failure light recently after a very wet short drive. It drove well on the road but threw the light when I restarted it to put it in the garage. Idle would go crazy (up to 3000 rpms then down) with very limited throttle response (ie. It would not follow my input). I let it dry, restarted a few times a week later but the CEL continued (traction control light disappeared). Connected the OBD reader: it had two stored codes that read throttle actuator performance/range / forced Idle. Cleaned the codes and now works fine.

  10. Hi,

Welcome to the fold. Sounds like a good plan. Good to have a Ferrari man on board. The former owner of that car is on here, too, so you will probably be glad to see some other pictures of your car. 🙂

Looking forward to reading about your impressions and experiences with the car.

    Enjoy in good health.
