    You'd need to cut a slot in the full length of the tube I would have thought.
    Luckily it didn't come to that. Having got the foot rest out of the car it looks like it's made of three parts; a tube welded into a boss which is welded to the plate and it's just the last 10mm of that boss that needs opening up.
    I ended up drilling it out from 5mm to 6mm and countersinking the opening to make sure there are no sharp edges that could damage the inner cable.

    Cable fits through perfectly now 😃

    I bought a new O2 sensor and a rollover valve since it was only £9.
    I've only fitted the O2 sensor for now and its started and run without stalling, but given its an intermittent fault the jury is out at the moment as to whether its fixed or not yet, need to run it a few more times to be sure.

    I think the exhaust mounting cradle is bent causing the misalignment of the cables ☹️
