  1. Is that 7.5ml per carb per 20 accelerator pushes, per carb barrel x 20 or for both carbs all barrels x 20? Cheers Mike
  2. Hi Everyone. I've done a quick search and cannot find any reference to oil filter alternatives to the Lotus OEM Filter. As Lotus must get these made for them and branded for them I was hoping someone had experience of other brands of filters that are as good if not better than OEM filter. Info on the current thinking on oil grade and brand would be useful too for a 1982 N/A 2.2. Cheers Mike
  3. Hi I am looking for the Gates Part number for the small belt that runs only the water pump from the crank on a S3 N/A. I have a new Gates 6218MC belt which is the wrong belt as it is a combined belt to drive the alternator and the water pump. Can anyone supply the info please. Thank You.
  4. OK so having checked out the situation regarding the Air Con I am not going to put the belt on as the system is empty and I am going to leave the job of sorting the Air Con for when I move house and have a garage with a ramp. The next question is does anyone know the gates product code for the small belt water pump only belt? I have a gates 6218MC which unfortunately is a belt for a combined water pump alternator drive. I have a three belt crank pulley due to having air con fitted the alternator and water pump have separate belts. Cheers Mike
  5. Thanks for the answers guys. It all sounds simple enough but ideally I could do with a photo of the tensioner set up as I am working from above with the engine in situ and a chassis brace running right in front of the pump making things awkward. I can only work by feel from above as I don't have access to a ramp at the moment. Cheers Mike
  6. I have a few questions about the Air Con. The car has been unused since 2004 I am recommissioning. Can the Air con system use modern gases? Does anyone have photos / description of how to adjust the air con idler tensioner in situ. Does anyone have experience of fitting a slightly larger belt as original spec seems too tight to allow adjustment? Cheers Mike
  7. Thanks for the info. As I have 2 of the earlier style "T" belts I think I will use these first then replace the early sprockets with the later HTD sprockets.
  8. Both belts have 133 teeth and all sprockets are in good condition no dirt and a rebuilt tensioner. The 2.2 uses the same belt as the 2.0. I quickly tried the standard 5146 and still didn't manage to get it to time up. I will have a proper go next week. One thing I did note is I can feel the 5146 belt has elasticity while the T104RB is very very rigid with no perceivable give. I think I have just lost the knack of fitting the cambelts in situ😄 its been a few years since I have done one.
  9. Does anyone have the Gates part number for the HTD HC belt? Now Ive found my set of HTD pulleys I am thinking of fitting them instead. Cheers Mike
  10. I can stop the speculation regarding the T104RB profile. The official specification states "Trapezoidal". I have placed it against the original Gates 5146 Trapezoidal belt and it matches exactly as stated earlier on this thread it is the colouring which seems to fool the eye. The blue in each tooth is semi circular but the outer part around the blue on each tooth is square. I have tried it against my set of later HTD cam sprockets and it is no way round in comparison to the profile on the HTD pulleys. The profile can be seen on the photo next to the HTD Cam Sprocket.
  11. OK I have found the answer the belt T104RB is classed as a Trapezoidal Belt not round tooth.
  12. So the T104RB is the correct belt for the Trapezoidal pulleys it appears?
  13. Hi Steve are you running the later spec HTD cam pulleys? Further note I have tried timing the engine with the belt on both ways I know in the photos the belt is on the wrong way around but the results in trying to time the engine remained the same, I now have a Standard Gates 5146 to try out.
  14. This belt was supplied as an upgrade to the 5146 standard belt I ordered from a Gates distributer as they had no stock left of the 5146. I assumed this was a correct direct replacement for the 5146.
  15. Those are the sprockets having been perfectly aligned prior to the cam belt fitting and after one engine revolution of the engine. When the cam timing marks are aligned the crank is approx 8 to 10 degrees after TDC no matter what I try I either end up before TDC or after. I cannot get the timing marks aligned. The engine has been rebuilt many years ago so it could have been skimmed but I think that would have to be a severe skim to create a marked difference to the timing surely? I've never come across that before and I have rebuilt quite a few engines? But is this a known result of head skimming? If so perhaps I need some vernier sprockets?? Cheers Mike
  16. Here is a photo of my timing marks. When the engine is approx 10 degrees after TDC the cam sprockets line up? The photos show the engine at TDC.
  17. Thanks that's good info. Have you any photos of the cam sprockets looking from the rear of the engine? Did you fit your belt when the engine was out of the car?
  18. Hi Everyone I have a few questions. I have replaced many timing belts on various Lotus cars using the 900 series engine including S4s, S3 HC Turbo, S2 etc however this S3 G ar is giving me a real head ache. The car has been off road for many years I cut the original timing belt off as it was in a bad way. I ordered a new Gates belt 5146 however I received a Blue Gates RPM T104RB belt which was supposed to be an upgrade as they had no standard belts in stock. 1) Has anyone fitted one of these blue belts? If so was there any problem getting the timing to be correct? 2) Is one tooth on the crank pulley equal to 10 degrees? 3) Can anyone provide a photo of their cam pulleys with timing marks lined up in relation to the cam boxes. I will try to post photos of the cam positions with the engine at TDC. If the engine is at 10 degrees before TDC the cam timing marks align. Any other observations advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Mike
  19. Dr. Peter Nelson Owner of Cars of the Stars First bought The Hero Car NCL458V 10858 in the late 80s privately from a guy in Leeds. He bought OPW654W 10930 from the Lotus Heritage Auction in the late 90s. He bought OPW664W 10929 I am not sure when or where but I believe this was the last of the Bond cars he purchased. He opened up a second site (in the Borders I believe) of "Cars of the Stars" as his Keswick site was at capacity and he had cars in storage. This venture appeared to be not financially viable in the noughties. By this time the original Hero car's value had rocketed so it was auctioned off first before selling the remaining collection to Deezer. I believe Peter now resides in the USA. See Pg 14 of this thread for full details
  20. That could be true but 10930 was pictured wearing its 654 Reg required for running on public roads so it must have been transferred after it had finished its public duties were over around the film launch. Transferring registrations back then was a lengthy process and 654 had work to do.
  21. Please also note non of the cars either used in the film or associated with promotional work were ever registered as OPW678W. Any Copper Fire car wearing the OPW678W is wearing false plates. The car registered with OPW678W is a Blue S3 non Turbo that was I think Don Macs company car for a while if my memory serves me correctly.
  22. The Hero car never had the 007 stickers on it. The HC bonnet was fitted after the early promo work directly following filming had been completed. (It was originally built with the earlier type of bonnet). The photo is the promo car doing what it said on the tin "promo work" As it is on a race track not a public road it can wear false OPW678W plates. Earlier in this thread it can be seen with its UK legal Reg OPW654W which it had to display as it was being driven in Norfolk on a public road. The 2 cars can also be differentiated by the fact the HERO car had the Styled by G badges. The promo car and MPW71V never had the Styled by G badges when in Copper Fire trim. The car in Q's Lab doesn't have the styled by G badges and also doesn't have any Ski racks. MPW71V when I owned it directly from the factory did not have any signs of ever having had ski racks fitted.
