Well thanks. I will put it in like is and will see how it works…..Had to wait a few days as I had ordered the incorrect gasket (the one which is on the backplate of the pump) had to wait for the motor side one to arrive. fingers crossed

On my new Renault 16 water pump the internal pathway from one side to the other side is blocked with a steel ball whereas in my old pump it was open? How should it be on a Lotus? Should I slam out the steel ball before mount or is it supposed to be closed? Is it an internal valve? any ideas? many thanks

Thanks Tony! Finally got it. Needed to pry out the bottom part using a big flat screw driver with brute force as mine was glued around the bottom edges. The ashtray and door handle stay in place as they are only attached to the door card And have no connection to the door whatsoever. many thanx for all your help! best, zeb

Thanks. Us germans can’t get any creative with personalized plates. Only fixed city code 2 alphabetic characters and 3 to 4 digit number. H for historic in this case. That’s it. This fixed systematic, lack of creativity and most importantly lack of any humor coupled with a shitty font which does not lent to any alpha numeric associative intermingling makes it quite hard. on the plus side we do not have any expensive plates.

Thanks. And it is in non-restored original condition. Really exceptionally nice example original paint 50.000 mls from new everything 100%stock. It will need some work coming winter as the suspension parts are a little rusty. Otherwise clean with nice patina. Only had it for a month. The more i use it the better it gets..so far. Everything is working. Previous owner only drove like 150mls in the past 7 years.

Pete and Chris many thanks for your help. I was unable to further investigate as a friend convinced me to use the long awaited early rays of almost summer sun of this afternoon to hit the golf links. Mine is a 83 model around the edges I only found the 2 bottom screws. ( no screw horizontally) But I guess the answer lies in the door handle itself. Had not looked at the handle.... I am kind of baffled how to reach any of the screws as it is fully covered nicely in vinyl leather from all sides. Will check tomorrow. But from manual (see pic) i suspect this to be the culprit. cheers, zeb

Any hint how to remove the door card? How is it fixed? I need to get inside the door to repair the outside handle linkage and lock barrel, which is currently dangling inside the door and blocking the window mechanism. I can’t seem to understand how the card is fixed. I found 2 screws from the bottom and the screw in the ashtray and in the door opener removed the little black light switch thingy but no success yet. What’s the secret? How is it fixed. Clips? Glued? Would prefer to understand how it is fixed to reduce chances of breaking it. Thanks for your help!

I have just purchased an ´82 very early´83 model like yours in a darker blue with gold trim and beige / gold velour /leather all original and as far as I can tell so far absolutely spectatcular original condition. I viewed it purchased it but unfortunately its not here yet. I will pick it up with a tow truck next week hope to get all the MOT tests paper works ready soonish to get in on the streets asap! Osku can you confirm that on our models the steering rack is 36 spline 17.5 mm? Maybe I´d like to source a momo hub and have a little fun with a different steering wheel. I was eyeing this cheapo dished rallye style and stash the original nicely away to protect it from unecessary deterioration due to my angst sweaty hands under heavy driving 😉. Best Zeb
