  1. Thanks for that, I was worried about the diy claims on removal. My local anodiser - who cannot do bright said they use a caustic tank - which is the stuff in oven cleaner I will try on an unimportant part. I'm sure they will, as you say, remove the anodising at a sensible cost, not worth risking pats you cannot get!! Pete
  2. Luckily we do have a bright anodising company in Devon, Teign Metal Finishes I am going to take the trims to them before any works to get advice Removing the anodising seems to be quite simple using a caustic oven cleaner then giving even hardness.
  3. Quite that is my concern the bits you can't get Someone seems to have been a bit excited with a sealant gun too I am looking to get the anodising removed dress and improve the trims then re-anodise before refitting. I have sort of allowed several evenings to remove the trim without damage Pete
  4. I only got hold of the staff at Lotus bits today Whether it was being coy or did know I have no idea All they said was that the ones they sell fit properly Interesting it seems not to be the Elite with the problem. I will be asking for advice when I do mine on removing the ally trim without damage Tips and warnings will be very useful Pete
  5. I visited Lotusbits before I bought the car, to get an idea of what you could still get. I did not know at the time that my screen was damaged but it was said that there are two suppliers and one type does not fit. I should have time tp call and ask tomorrow and will post the result Pete
  6. That is very low cost. Would they take off the delicate trim and refit or just the screen. The trim could well be very stuck with some sort of gunk and being ally need great care to remove Only some is still available. I will ask Lotusbits which was the screen that did not fit right They wanted around £300 for a screen
  7. I have to keep away from red, I can't afford to replace the boss! That looks great - on the road or nearly? I need a windscreen too, scratched right in the line of sight Lotusbits said there are two made and one make does not fit properly Can we buy two and get a discount?
  8. Now that I like, correct BRG I think though just a bit brighter so a pastiche Interior cream black carpets or possibly brown as the originals. Carpets very much needed as they give an old car / wet dog odour. What are your thoughts? Pete
  9. I do like it but Helen (the boss) refuses to have a red car. I am tempted at the moment with British Racing Green but slightly brighter green Pete
  10. Thanks, I could not see a difference in the photos The controls have wooden fittings so most likely Elite Under the seat is a rubber pad glued to the leather This is soggy on the drivers side Is there a known way to firm up?
  11. Thanks for that - It is also possible to change the colour Takes time but with a project that is free How do I tell the difference between the XJS seats and the originals?
  12. Will do - may not be returning correctly
  13. Single catch in the middle Tapered rod with a hole in it that a pin clicks into I will adjust tighter again next
  14. Thanks for the replies and the trail for restoration of the US brown one. I am in Devon near Tavistock and not far from SJ for bits. I will get photos loaded shortly however it is the Blue Elite with red seats recently on ebay which I am sure you have seen. Driving yesterday which went well and got back again which is a real bonus One odd fault - Tailgate seems to click shut fine but while driving opens itself Adjusted the lock to shut tighter, no change, any thoughts Slight leak on the new fuel pump connections. Unbolted to check and repair. Now refuses to leak - if only all faults were like that?
