  1. Thanks for all your responses guys, much appreciated. So, I've made peace with the fact that the transmission rattle is just a Lotus quirk, but unfortunately the window issue hasn't corrected itself despite the efforts at a reset, so it'll be a trip to my nearest Lotus dealership to have this corrected (thankfully under warranty).
  2. That's useful to know, thank you. I'll try the reset again tomorrow and report back
  3. Thanks - so you hold it stationary, or push it in the direction that it's supposed to be going? Thanks, I tried that process but probably not for as long as 20secs, so I'll give it a other go
  4. Hi all - I've had my factory matte black 2015 Evora S for a couple of months now, and couldn't be happier. I use it as a daily driver and have been pleasantly surprised at how practical it's been. The fact that it looks gorgeous and is a joy to drive is a given, and I'm frequently being stopped by curious admirers. I have though encountered a couple of issues that I wanted to share, and hopefully get some thoughts on. I've had a look through the forums and have seen some threads relating to both, but nothing that specifically answers/solves my queries, so fingers crossed this post will attract some enlightened feedback (thanks in advance!). The first issue, which I gather is fairly common, is the slight grinding sound I get - particularly in first and second gears - when either changing gears or beginning to accelerate. It's not horrific, but definitely noticeable. I've read some suggestions that it may be related to the fact that the gearbox was originally paired with a diesel engine (or am I making this up?!), and that it's nothing to worry about. I also read that Evoras do not have dual-mass flywheels (on top of the fact that the S has a lightened flywheel), which means you can get a little gear rattle/noise in low gears at very low RPMs. Irrespective it'd be nice to know if there's anything that can be done about it, or whether it's just one of those quirks of a Lotus car. The second issue, which is definitely of concern (and has only just materialised), is the fact that my passenger window doesn't sit flush with the frame - there is a discernible gap between the top of the window and the frame, and it almost looks as though the glass of the window has been scratched too (see pic) - perhaps something is not aligned correctly? I've read some suggestions about how to 'reset' the windows by holding the open/close button all the way for several seconds, but this has made no difference. I have a 1 year Lotus warranty that came with the car, so having the issues addressed shouldn't be a problem, but if either is fixable without schlepping over to my nearest dealership and potentially being without the car for several days, then that'd be preferable. All thoughts and suggestions gratefully received. One pic of the car attached (just cos), and one of the faulty window. Many thanks, Matt
  5. Thanks. Called AA yesterday, with the first chap telling me that the charge - if any - would be similarly low to yours, but when I then spoke to a sale assistant they claimed that they couldn't do it, full stop. Back to square one!
  6. That's really interesting... Thanks v much for the info. It's genuinely fascinating to see this 'documented' history of it!
  7. Aha, I shall check and report back then. It's being serviced and MOT'd at the mo, so I won't physically have it for another couple of week yet unfortunately
  8. Good question - I know the current plate, but otherwise couldn't tell... and I'm not too sure about the previous owner's history either I'm afraid
  9. Correct, it's the Stratton one I've gone for, hence my desperate posts about best advice re maintaining a matte finish! Speaking of which, a 'matte specific' ceramic coat is the option I've been advised to pursue
  10. This is going to sound incredibly naive... So, I could swap my Evora for Vx220 in my existing policy without too much of a change to existing terms/costs? Thanks for the advice re the wrap too... Hadn't thought of that as a 'mod' Blimey, that does sound reasonable!
  11. Now, that's really interesting. I'm a mortgage broker, so fit in the 'financial advice' category... I wonder if that's regarded favourably or not now! Blimey, I wonder what I've done wrong!
  12. Interesting, thanks. Quotes have been pretty high so far... circa £1k per year with my partner as a named driver. Both 40, driving over 20years and no previous issues. *gulp*
  13. Hi all - many thanks once again for all of your opinions and suggestions. So, I've now put a deposit down on a 2015 Evora S with 11k miles on the clock. It needs to be serviced and have it's MOT before I can collect, but I'm eagerly looking forward to it! I was hoping I could tap into your collective expertise a bit more please. Again, I've searched the forum for existing threads on these topics, but it'd great to have a more up-to-date perspective if possible. * Insurance - I currently have my VX220 Turbo insured with the AA, as they were one of the few insurers willing to touch me with no previous 'sports car' experience. Having only had that for half a year (although, thankfully, with no issues yet!) I'm not sure whether that'll now, in turn, do me any favours with searching for insurance for the Evora. I unfortunately don't have any 'no claims history' (although I passed my test about 22 years ago, I didn't regularly drive or own a car until several months ago), so I have a feeling this will be a painful search... any recommendations gratefully received. * Fuel - I fill my VX220 up with Tesco Momentum 99 and have definitely noticed an enormous improvement over and above when it was initially run on standard unleaded. It's also pretty decent value for money when compared alongside other premium unleaded petrol. Would it be ok/advisable to use this for my Evora too? * Bodywork - one of the potential 'downsides' to my new Evora is that it's finished in factory matte black. I say 'downside' as although I love the look, I realise that upkeep of matte paintwork is fairly hard work, coupled with the fact that it seems as though it has already suffered a bit of mottling/water-marking. My options are... 1) Use some specialist matte paintwork products to try and restore it as best I can, and then be careful about maintaining that ('repair' would involve a full respray, which I don't have the budget for) 2) As above, and then pay for a ceramic coating 3) Opt for a wrap, and then worry about what to do next in a few years time when the wrap reaches it's max lifespan * Storage cover - I'm in the process of trying to negotiate covered storage space for the car that doesn't involve me having to need another car just to drive to it! In the meantime could anybody recommend a decent all-weather outdoor cover please? I have a really decent Halfords one on my VX220, but it is quite loose, so - with me living on the coast - it often catches the wind and moves around more than I'd like (even with straps that pass under the car). I've seen some beautiful-looking tight, neoprene styles ones on the store on this site, but any other suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks again in advance for your help, it really is appreciated.
  14. Cheers Clive - yes, I have to remind myself that, in many ways, it can be that simple of a decision... which brings the most pleasure Funny you should mention them Keith, as I have a test drive of an 'S' at the Lewes branch on Weds! Cheers Stephen - yes, I don't have a commute, so could see myself managing 5k miles or less per year
  15. Thanks Justin - I hadn't even thought about the depreciation element, so that's really helpful. Naturally I'm still torn though! Insurance quotes also seem to be coming in massively differently... more than double the price for the 'S' versus the 'NA'
  16. Thanks Dean - that's a really useful consideration. I had tried to find some real life MPG figures online, but there wasn't an enormous amount of data, so your genuine experience is really helpful.
  17. Cheers Bibs - that'll be another few hours of my life dedicated to Evora research during the working day! 😉 Really appreciate the advice and links, thank you.
  18. Hi Keith, thanks v much for your reply and advice. I'm certainly leaning towards the same conclusion. I went to university there (many moons ago!), and have held onto the email address ever since. Many happy memories of the area, and I have aunts/uncles/cousins in Somerset too, so occasionally travel back down. I'm in East Sussex now.
  19. Dear all, Having read enormous numbers of threads on this excellent forum (and various reviews across the length and breath of the internet!), I was hoping I could ask for your opinions on quite a specific buying scenario please. I currently have a Vauxhall VX220 Turbo, which has given me the taste for Lotus engineering, but which isn't practical enough to be a daily driver for me (so will remain as a weekend car). I settled on an Evora (BMW i8 being my only other option for a mid-engined 'four' seater sports car), and am now in a position to buy, and have a decision to make. Am I better off opting for an older 2009 standard model with around 60k miles on the clock and priced just under £30k... or stretching to around £10k more for an 'S' that's around 9 years old and has half the mileage? Both have full service histories and look to be in good aesthetic condition. I realise there are lots of variables to cover here, but would gratefully welcome any thoughts or feedback. I'm really excited to join this excellent community, and offer many thanks in advance for your advice.
