  1. Problem with the knocking solved, inner U/J, changed and no knocking anymore. Had to check the U/J when the car was still warm, could not notice the problem when cold, probably due to the grease getting thinner when warm ?
  2. Anyone experienced this? I went to the garage today to examine a strange vibration from the rear, luckely enough I found this during my first visual inspection...I will replace both calipers with new ones from pnm engineering.
  3. I have a bit of a tricky problem on my Esprit S2... When driving with a passenger in the car I can hear a knocking sound from the rear, it is a rythmic knocking that follows the speed of the car and is more prominent in low speeds. Yesterday it seemed to fade after a while but then returned, note that it does not cause any form of vibrations or similar, just a knocking sound. The UJ's are replaced not that long ago, same goes for the bearings, and I have also replaced the sliding pins on the calipers and checked for loose pads. I have tried to provoke the car and put it under load when driving without passanger, but have not this far beeing able to recreate it. strange, isn't it? Any ideas????
  4. Allready have one of those and a airflow meter :-) but I guess the colortune is the best way to examine the mixture?
  5. Oh....what was I thinking..to tired perhaps, I have a description of the idle circuit in the workshop manual.... I have read somwhere that the mixture screw can be fragile and damaged if turnd down to tight, might perhaps happen when turning them down full and backing up the 3 1/2 turns on initial setup, I don't know, has this happened to anyone here at the forum? I will check the screw on cyl 4 as well, and I have just ordered a colortune set to perform a check of the combustion :-)
  6. Tanks for your input! I will chek the Idle jets, but what about the idle adjustment screw, does this affect the total amount of mixed air and fuel? or only fuel/air? Just wondering if I might have to change the adjustment screws. I will have the cambelt changed during the spring and I will ask them to check the valve clearence as well, then they will have to re-seal the camcovers and solve the oil-leaking :-)
  7. Hi everyone! I have this problem with my beloved Esprit: The car runs great for 100-200 miles, then one of the cylinders starts to missire (the one closest to gearbox) and after a while I'm down to three cylinders... Upon checking the plug of the affected cylinder it turns out to be clogged, I change the plug nad the car runs great again for onother 100-200 miles.... Some other symptoms: When adjusting the idle-mixture screw for this cylinder nothing happens, does not matter how I adjust it, the revs does not change The problem seems to occur faster if keeping the revs on 2-3k for a longer time, the engine also has a tendency to stumble a bit on acceleration from 2k (just around 2-3k, over 3 it accellerates smothly), this problem during acceleration is not present if I add a bit of choke (!?) The oil consumption seems normal, even though on shifting gears on high revs (>5-6k) a small puff of smoke can be seen if driving behind the car (but not such a big cloud that it is visible in the rear mirror view), no smoke otherwise I have noticed a leak from the camcover that leads to oil in the "plugg-well" (don't know the name for it in English :-)) What might the problem be? carb? oil leaking through the valv guides causing clogg to build up (the smoke on high rev shifting)? Hope you guys have some ideas about what I might go for, will have some time to spend in the garage during the long Swedish winter...:-(
  8. Have some probs with my S2 (dellorto carbs), it starts to stumble and missfire when driving at 2,5-4k rpm for a while. I have recently balanced the carbs, and it accelerates and idles as it should. The stumble and missfire dissapear if I give it a go on the throttle, seems like it "cleans up". any ideas?
